Best jab in the current HW division?

    As George Foreman once said, "this sport is easy if you have a jab". Now that Wladimir is retired - who had arguably one of the best jabs in HW history, second only to Holmes' maybe - in your opinion, which of the current HWs has the best jab?
    Joshua - stiff, strong, but he uses it mainly to set up his combinations, not that much to dictate the pace and distance as Wladimir used to do;
    Wilder - developed quite a decent jab over the last few years; we saw it a lot in the first Stiverne fight;
    Fury - fast, long, but more of a slapping backhand jab, uses it to confuse and maneuver opponents;
    Another? Ortiz?
    I personally was quite impressed by Gerald Washington's jab in his fight with Wilder. However, I'm having a really hard time picking one master of the jab right now.

    Pulev is not a bad pick, maybe not the best but possibly the most effective.

    Wilders jab is amazing at times but other than BS 1 he hasnt used it as effectively as guys like Pulev.

    Best jab, right hand, left hook, chin, puncher, and boxer in the division and he's also the fastest as well. :deal:

    Pulev, then Fury.

    Dubois has a very good jab too, but he needs to show more versatility with it and have it tested against better opposition before I rate it on the level of Pulev's and Fury's.

    I don't rate Washington's jab. Yes he out jabbed Wilder, but that was more to do how Wilder reacts to a jab rather than Washington having an better jab. Washington pushes his jab out, there's no real snap or power to it as we saw vs Miller.

    By jab do we mean just the basic jab or are we to include modified jabs? Like the corkscrew or jolt?

    Anything that can be called a jab I guess. There are a lot of ways of throwing one, so whatever works for the guy using it.

    Come to think of it, the less these top HWs of today rely on their jabs, the greater the chance of slugfests. Don't get me wrong, I'm one of those few who actually enjoyed watching "boring" Klitshko boxing masterclasses all these years, but it would be nice to see some mouthpieces flying from time to time (I'm looking at you, AJ vs Parker!)

    I like Pulev, and for the basic pop in pop out straight on the track kind of thing the kid is pretty good, but Wilder and the Furies can pivot which just availes them to a whole world of angles and mods that track fighters struggle with. It's one of the elements that was in play in Fury-Wlad. Wlad's a excellent jabber, excellent mods, but since he's always struggled to pivot Tyson could always take the better position. Since Wlad knew punch for punch Tyson can do what he can do but from a better position it basically shut the champ down.

    That said, AJ and JP don't have bad basic jabs either. I'm not sure why everyone's so quick to hand that to Kubrat. I'd say those guys are about equal.

    Tyson showed us the best distance game we've seen since Lennox. I'd say Wilder's second, but more often than not he doesn't modify to a cork, it'll look similar but he goes into line of sight punches that I don't think have a name so regardless of effective it's hard to call it technical. I mean is a cork a cork if it's shot from the hip and triggered like a jolt? I dunno to be honest.
