Which one matchup from boxing history would you like to have happened from each of the original eight weight divisions? It can be a fight that could have happened but didn't between fighters from the same era or completely historically impossible matchups across generations. You can only pick one fight per division but it has to be a fight that didn't happen, so not 'Evander Holyfield v Mike Tyson 1991', because they eventually fought in 1996, or 'the Muhammad Ali who beat Cleveland Williams v the Larry Holmes who beat Ken Norton' because Ali and Holmes fought in 1980. If it happened at some point, it's excluded. Each matchup is assumed to be prime v prime. I'll start off. Heavyweight: Joe Frazier v Rocky Marciano Light-heavyweight: Ezzard Charles v Bob Foster Middleweight: Harry Greb v Marvin Hagler Welterweight: Sugar Ray Robinson v Sugar Ray Leonard Lightweight: Roberto Duran v Alexis Arguello Featherweight: Salvador Sanchez v Alexis Arguello Bantamweight: Eder Jofre v Ruben Olivares Flyweight: Jimmy Wilde v Pascual Perez
HW Frazier vs Holyfield LHW Tommy Loughran vs Bob Foster MW Hopkins vs Monzon WW Thomas Hearns vs Tito Trinidad LW Bob cat Montgomery vs Roberto Duran (Or Laguna vs Duran) FW Azumah Nelson vs Sal Sanchez II (Vicente Saldivar vs Sal Sanchez) BW Joltin Jeff Chandler vs Lupe Pintor Fly Midget Wolgast vs Miguel Canto
Heavyweight: mike Tyson vs Mohammed ali Light heavyweight: roy jones jr vs Andre ward Middleweight: mayweather vs sugar ray Robinson Welterweight: also sugar ray vs sugar ray Lightweight: Henry Armstrong vs manny pacquiao Flyweight: manny pacquiao vs lomenchko
Really good choices at FW and BW! Chandler v Pintor is definitely one of the great lost fights of the 80s and an all-Mexican showdown between Saldivar v Sanchez would have been a classic!
Heavyweight - Kimbo Slice vs Tom Sharkey Light Heavyweight - Danny Green vs Gene Tunney Middleweight - McGregor vs McGreb Welterweight - Abthony Mundine vs Floyd Mayweather Lightweight - Charlie Zeneleof vs Roberto Duran Featherweight - Azumah Nelson Jeff Fenech IV Flyweight - Woody Allen vs Vasyl Lomachenko
It is hard to go wrong using just fights that should have happened! A shame Chandler vs Pintor couldn’t come off as it would have cemented/elevated one of thier legacies as bantams. The Saldivar vs Sanchez one however really intrigues me and I go back and forth as to who would prevail....however I think the master boxer Loughran vs The always dangerous puncher Foster might be the best of the bunch
Heavy: Liston vs Foreman LightHeavy: Charles vs Langford Middle: Ketchel vs Fitzsimmons Welter: Hearns vs Mayweather Light: Duran vs Armstrong Feather: Sanchez vs Arguello Bantam: Zarate vs McGovern Fly: Canto vs Lynch
