Hi mate, I might argue that Ali-Clay had a more versatile jab than Larry as far as being able to throw it from different heights, stances and angles but as far as Lennox having a jab anywhere near as good as Holmes. Nope.

Lewis got outjabbed by Mercer and we saw what an old Larry Holmes jab did to Mercer.

Holmes jab is not overrated in any way shape or form. It's an All Time Jab

I hear what your saying. I've just always preferred Holmes Jab over Clay/Ali over all others.
In my book there's Holmes Jab then everyone else's. Ali Hearns Quartey Liston and Louis all have great jabs but for my money Holmes is the top dog

However the most diverse jab Ive ever seen was Kenny Buchanan's as he used it for so many different things.

There's so many ways to use a jab. Joe Louis is my favourite if the heavyweights, although it probably isn't the best. I think Holmes stands out as his jab was very flashy, not as flashy as Ali's, but at the same time had a lot of pop to it and was probably the best punch in his arsenal. I don't think Holmes or Ali matched the power that Lewis, Liston and Wlad could generate.

Id say these are the six are the stand outs of the highly rated heavyweights on the all time list, but they all have great jabs for many different reasons and use them in different ways, that's why it's so hard to distinguish who's is the 'best', especially considering the rich history of great jabbers in the heavyweight division.. Pinkoln Thomas, Moorer, Tyson, Tunney. Johnson, Ed Martin and Corbett can be listed if we give credit to contemporary opinions of that era

Bob Foster, Tommy Loughran and Sonny Liston all had better left jabs than Larry

Hey guys, that could be an interesting thread.
" Name your ten best jabbers ".

Here are some non heavyweights who come immediately to mind but this isnt my final list if I had to make one. More thought is needed. Anyhoo...

Tommy Loughran, Gene Tunney, Sugar Ray Robinson, Harold Johnson, Bob Foster, Ken Buchanan, Marvin Hagler, Thomas Hearns, Pernell Whitaker and Winky Wright.

He could definitely be countered over that jab though & lots of guys hurt him with right hands. But what he did do was to move his feet while he jabbed. Man, has that skill been absent with recent heavies, or what? Who fights off their toes?
