Would not be unreasonable to favor him over anyone in the current top 10 at the moment.

Joshua is only proven fighter with youth and he still has question marks.

Parker has room to improve but was out boxed by Andy Ruiz.

Povetkin & Ortiz are getting old and slow. Wilder looked very ordinary the one time he faced a solid boxer in Stiverne I.

He would do like he did while active IMO .Against certain heavy s he'd look pretty good , then against others he'd be seen as to small and struggle. But he'd never be dominant in a era of super size guys unfortunately .

Povetkin is the guy who ejected Byrd from serious contention for those who forgot.

Byrd was also 37 years old and at the end of his career. It was a good win for Povetkin, but I think a prime meeting between both men would be very competitive.

    He'd be a top 10'er , but not a champ.

He wouldn't get away from Parker like Hughie Fury wasn't able to get away from him and Hughie was on his pedal bike in that fight far worse than Byrd ever was.

Jooshua drubs him same as Ike did.

Wilder beats him same as how Wlad did - shooting fast jabs and right hands down the pipe. Wlad didn't do anything out of the ordinary skill wise to beat Byrd. He stayed out of range and used his size , reach , speed and power to pummel Byrd and Byrd was too small and flat footed to do anything about it.
Wilder showed how he could beat Byrd in the Stiverne I fight.
Byrd got gift decisions over MaCline and Qquendo because he had Don King managing him. He drew but should have lost against 40 year old Golota.
Wilders speed and power would spread him clean out , as it would those 3 old stiffs who Byrd should have lost against.

Byrd was shot at that time. He looked bad vs Williamson 2 years earlier and was completely destroyed by Wlad 1.5 years earlier. Byrd would've lost to many guys at that time.

He was fading but a green, pudgy Povetkin put the stamp on it.

I think that there has been a bit of a step up in the size of the contenders since Lewis retired.

A lot of the belt holders who came after Lewis, were about 6' 1'', and very obviously fat.

When people said that they were a new generation of super heavyweights, I honestly wasn't convinced.

The current batch of contenders are legitimately big guys.

Having said that, I do think that Byrd would beat most of the current top ten, probably including Parker.

    Or should he?

While he would probably have had more success in that division, would he be more admired for it?

Would he have made more money?

I think Byrd would have because he was a real fighter, strong mentally as well as physically .. today many don't even rate him that highly and that's a shame because he was a terrific boxer. IF he dominated and then moved up for a super fight he may have made more money in one or two big fights than he did as a lower tier heavyweight ..
