I agree. I still enjoyed his later fights but you heard a lot of people complain about them. Im like you, you had to take into account his age and just how good he was at slowing those young guys down. I watched him most of his career so I got to see him age before my eyes and didnt let his later career cloud my judgement of what he was capable of in his prime.

I agree with Wlad also being tough to watch. I remember being excited to watch his fights early on in his career. He was more of risk taker. After he got kayoed a couple times he changed his style. I believe when he had Manny Steward as his trainer he modified his style and utilized his height and strength including positioning his chin behind his front knee. This safety first coupled with all the clinching made him extremely hard for me to watch.

Pernell Whitaker. Great fighter. Often watching his fights I find myself switching off although I appreciate his defensive wizardry.

I hate fighters that clinch a lot, I respect Ward, Wlad, BHop, etc... but they are awful to watch and John Ruiz is even worse since he doesn't have the skills of the others that I mentioned.

Eddie Mustafa Muhammad, previously known as Eddie "The Flame" Gregory, may have been the most talented light-heavyweight of the late 1970s and early 1980s. However, he rarely seemed motivated and often stunk out the joint with his performances.

Ronnie Harris, a middleweight of the 1970s, had an extremely boring fighting style.

Among the top heavyweights with boring fighting styles, Joe Bugner, Jimmy Young and John Ruiz stand out. I remember one sports radio broadcaster describing Young as "an agony fighter," meaning that he was agony to watch. At least Bugner and Young had talent and boxing skills. But Ruiz was another story. He didn't belong in a boxing ring with his "one jab and fall into a clinch" fighting style. Moreover, Ruiz didn't have the talent to fight effectively any other way. As a result, Ruiz may have been the most unwatchable fighter of my lifetime.

God, totally agree. Whitaker was so dull. He only got more interesting when his skills started eroding.

    John Ruiz

His matchmaking was great and I would favor him to lose to a lot of guys but he was effective. He looked terrible, though.

Just not seeing the Whitaker as boring who had terrible fights to watch. To each their own I guess.

For me it would be Monzon, Wlad and later Hopkins

I loved Conteh vs Saad the first time but once he hurt his hands he was a bit different. He was definitely a charismatic fighter, that's for sure ..
