I know it is commonly laughed off but to this day Foreman claims he was drugged. I've been reading some very interesting information about Foreman's very complicated and unhappy history with Dick Sadler through out his title reign filled with shady dealings and double crosses .. Richard Hoffer's excellent book adds to it .. knowing the unethical nature of this business nothing would have surprised me .. I am also interested in seeing footage of Foreman's corner between rounds as George mindlessly , robotically went ahead with a suicidal fight plan .. never seem to see enough .. it is not impossible ..

I can't say he was drugged. Whose camp did Saddler join after Zaire?

I wouldn' be surprised, it wouldn' have been the first time Dundee/ali didn't play fair. Dundee did admit to loosening the ropes to make the rope a dope more efficient,

What if it was insanely hot, and Foreman fought a battle at a crazy tempo following exactly the wrong strategy ... and then gassed spectacularly?

If Foreman was drugged vs Ali, then so was Wlad vs Brewster ;)

What if Ali had been impersomated by an alien super being for that one fight and thats why Foreman lost?? Think about it. Its possible!

Jesus Grant, not sure whats going on in your life but the quality of your posts over the years have devolved so dramatically Im left wondering if you have a ten year old child who has taken over your online identity. Between your threads on Robinson being coddled, Jack Johnson on his way to a loss to Jim Flynn, and many others Im wondering how you can still call yourself a historian. Might want to rethink that.

IMHO, Ali held da' cards. He wasn't champ but that simply didn't matter. I think Muhammed was the greatest Heavy of AT...but...the fight should have been fought in the Astrodome. but hey, it was Ali...take it to Africa where Ali had the masses behind him, the press, etc...hence all the questions surrounding the fight. My $0.02

Good question my opinion is he wasn't I think he punched himself out and Ali took advantage of it.....the loose ropes bought Ali the ability to pull away and taking something off his punches and counter...had the ropes been tighter Ali's legs might not have held up under the body shots

    No he didn't!
    He actually tightened the ropes.!
Dundee had no idea that Ali would adopt that tactic, as a matter of fact, Ali improvised it on the spot because he found he was getting winded and George was cutting off the ring too well!

Ali did not suggest having the fight in Africa,as the challenger he had no say in the matter. The fight went to Zaire because Mobutu bankrolled it ,simple as!

I'd say that the burden of proof is on Foreman if it's something he's interested in getting the public to believe. It's not like Foreman was fighting in some odd manner that he normally didn't fight in.

If say, Larry Holmes fought the way Foreman did in Zaire, I can see how that'd raise eyebrows. But Foreman was just being Foreman.

Ali won the fight because ..he had a all time great chin , a massive fighting heart , experience of fighting all type s of style's ,had a knack of adjusting to his opposition s attack .Foreman lost because ..he was over confident , couldn't or wouldn't pace him self ,couldn't adjust or change his style of fighting ,basically punched him self out , probably only trained for a 5round fight at most ,I'm guessing on that one .For all or some of those reason s ,Ali regained the heavy weight championship In my humble opinion.

Foreman looked just fine in terms of energy and power for the first 6 rounds. He was at the time an immature, overconfident brute, he punched himself out and Ali took advantage just like he took advantage of his wide open defense and pawing habit all night. as simple as that.

Anyone who knows anything at all about boxing knows that even the most finely conditioned boxer can only fight about 5-6 rounds max fighting "angry". Its why guys like Foreman and Tyson arent known as late round fighters. They were the opposite of guys like Ali, Holmes and Duran who could fight 15 rounds with a gut.

Funnily enough old George actually fought in a very relaxed manner. He obviously matured mentally.

Add the tropical heat and the dozens of straight right hands Ali hit him and you could make an argument Big George did well to last up to round eight. He was truly exhausted when he went down.

Anyone who was actually following boxing in the 70s knows that the word around the gyms was Foreman had poor stamina. Go n watch the Peralta fights.

    Cheers All.
