I think his scorecard in the Groves v Eubank fight was disgraceful and it should be looked into. Some fights are hard to score but his was an easy fight to score. Do peoole think its right that the brother of James DeGale's trainer judged a George Groves fight when you look at the long term bad blood between both fighters? I am not accusing McDonnell of being deliberately biased but it's very possible with the animosity betwen his brothers prodigy and Groves over such a long period that he wants him to lose and it inedvertedly clouds how he sees a fight involving Groves. What's peoples thoughts?
I thought it was very suspect. I would love judges to explain their cards. Better still.. In big fights I believe we should have judges wear mini cams, that way after the fight if there is a controversial decision they can release the footage and we can see what they saw. It might explain a lot. Just the visuals, no sound, so we can see if the judge was firstly paying attention, see exactly what he/she saw and it would give fans a better understanding of how the fight was scored from their position.
Thinking back to the fight if you were hysterically generous to Eubank Junior and gave him every round possible, you could not score it any closer than 116-112. 8 rounds to 4 in Groves favour is as close as it realistically could be. I personally had it 10 rounds to 2. 118-110. So I would interested to hear him talk through in person re watching the rounds he scored for Eubank Jr with a straight face.
Was rooting for George but even still be surprised any1 had it more than 9 rounds to 3 .even cej dad sayed he lost
I used to work with Marcus and I can honestly say that he's one of the most genuinely nice guys you would ever meet. He would always take time out of his day to help people and was generally liked by everyone. Having said that he's had some poor cards recently in general not just this one so I don't think it's to do with it being Groves.
There's poor scorecards and there' poor scorecards! Before his was read out I honestly said to myself he will do Groves a diservice. I couldn't believe he was a judge in this fight.
You actually said this before...and of course I accept he is a good guy. Strange how his judgement has got bad all of a sudden recently. Maybe it's possible he has a problem with his health of some sort or something like that??? That score was way off.
Its weird they do this. Pretty sure the boy that stopped the groves/froch 1 fight was also a judge the other night. The chances are him and mcdonall judge it as they see it. But why even risk a potential controvesy. Poor card from mcdonall for me.
