You will get to see some of them at the Olympics. We have 8 guys there and several of them will turn pro no matter what the outcome. Frankie Gavin for one is a good prospect.

I'll categorically say right now that Cleverley, Pryce, Murray, Matthews, Simpson, Macklin and Anderson will never get near world class. If I'm proven wrong and look a mug so be it, but I don't consider them prospects!

 

i don't really consider them prospects on the world stage. but this is more about current top british boxers (under the age of 29).

i wouldn't bet against macklin or kenny anderson getting a ABC title shot at some stage, but then again you don't have to be world class to achieve that.

 

Wow good boxing knowledge.........that was the name i was trying to remember......akaash bhatia, i remember seeing a fight on sky of his. Obviously wasn't against anyone good lol, i think it was like a 4 round fight. But he looked very good back then when i saw him.

 

I genuinely like Paul Smith and really wish him the very best, + I truly hope he kicks some ass and gets back on TV available in America. I've seen differing statements on here, and being from the states am ignorant to how it works for UK, but if some of the Irish dudes can get thrown in, I wish to see the following do well on world scene: Matt Macklin (very good MW), Bernard Dunne, Paul McKloskey, and a few others. BigReg, if you haven't caught it already, watch out for Irish posts on availability of fights on RTE (an internet broadcast for fights) as I've NEVER watched a show on there I wasn't pleased with watching.

I can fully appreciate the situation of a smallish yet really taking off boxing scene in Ireland being tenative to put thier two best MW's (excluding Andy Lee, he would be in the group too) against each other, where obviously one would have to lose.

But I would love to see in the ring whose the best between Macklin and John Duddy. From what I can tell watching all the RTE I can, that would be a MEGA event over there.

 

Technically, the United Kingdom consitutes Britain and Northern Ireland. So a guy like Martin Lindsay would count, John Duddy wouldn't as he is from the ROI, thank God.

 

Duddy is from Derry in Northern Ireland, so geographically speaking was born in the UK rather than the Republic, but holds Irish citizenship.

i live in Paisley which is about 10 miles outside paisley and there are 2 local boxers who have only fought a few times each but have a little bit of potential.Kris Carslaw is about 25 or 26 and fought at the commonwealths,he was a champion kickboxer so never turned to boxing until late on.The other boxer whom i know quite well is Stephen Russell.I went to school with him and he is only 20 but is a very talented boxer(already fought on braveheart promotions a few times)he fights at super feather and i really believe he will be fighting at british level in the next 18 months.He could be quite special.
