I cant right off McDonnell in this one... good boxer and has a chance if he gets behind his jab and manages to control the distance. That being said Inoue is a savage! I have Inoue as the favourite for sure.
But having said that, McDonnell struggles to make 118 and will be moving up to 122 after this fight. Moreover, as already stated in this thread, Inoue is an excellent body puncher -- especially with the left hook. McDonnell won't have the judges to help him out in this encounter because, in my opinion, Monster stops a weight-drained McDonnell with an accumulated body attack sometime around the 8th round. McDonnell's only real saving grace will be if Inoue's hand troubles of old resurface -- and even then, Inoue will do enough to win a wide UD.
Yes your quite right...im not saying that i particulary pick jamie. I know inoue ive watched him come through hes a top class fighter. But dont write jamie off. Obviously the weight with him is a major concern tho
I don't fancy McDonnell's chances, but I didn't think he would beat Kameda either. All credit for taking the fight and daring to be great. If for argument's sake he beats Inoue, where does it rank in best wins by a UK fighter? Beating an unbeaten P4P contender in his own backyard would have to be up there.
Let's say for instance Jamie does manage to pull off the impossible. Given how spectacular Naoya Inoue is, how he is cutting a swathe through the lower divisions and how highly lauded Monster is both by many here (myself included) and by knowledgeable people within boxing, Jamie McDonnell beating Naoya Inoue in Japan would have to rank alongside Randolph Turpin beating Sugar Ray Robinson in their first fight and Lloyd Honeyghan beating Donald Curry in the annals of the best wins by UK boxers.
If McDonnell was to go to Inoue’s back garden and beat him it ought to make him a contender for Sports Personality of the Year.
Is it me or is there some logic in Jamie McDonnell weighing in slightly over the limit instead of boiling himself down the final pound or so? Maybe not the most professional move but at the end of the day it's Jamie who is getting in the ring and taking shots. Yes he would lose his title on the scales - but he is moving up to Super Batamweight so no issues there. Yes he would get fined - presumably McDonnell's purse would be 5 figures (and possibly career highest) and significantly more than a standard title defence on a Matchroom card.
might be a risk though that Inoue’s management might call his bluff and the cancel the bout if they suspect that he deliberately came in overweight and then McDonnell would get a fine and lose what purse he would have got. It could happen especially after the recent farce involving another popular Japanese fighter Shinsuke Yamanaka, who was clearly at a unfair disadvantage when cheating Mexican Luis Nery came in 5 pounds over the Bantamweight limit at the weigh-in.
Imo McDonnell is not daring to be great his doing it for the payday its nothing like the kemeda fight his at a point where hearn hasn't got him the big fights and he has looked poor at the weight so his gonna try moving up and is talking a massive payday before his career is winding down and he wants to get paid hearn has done a terrible job with McDonnell
It will be a career high because over there he is the money guy and he can't turn it down because really he should have been in some really good money fights and have a better profile but hearn really has let him down that his got to take on a monster he might never be the same fighter after this
Nieves got $35K for fighting him on the Superfly card which really isn't much, can't find anything else on fight purses for him though.
With him being a champion I could see him maby getting 50k-100k do you have any idea what his best payday was I think he got at least 30k-50k for the Solis fights
Not too sure to be honest mate but if he's only getting that for Solis then he'd definitely get more for Inoue
