Corrie Sanders shocked the world with a second round ko of Wladimir Klitschko in Germany This content is protected
Sanders was an underrated talent and should have achieved more... HW Southpaw with fast hands, foot speed, crazy power, good amateur credentials... He wasn't fully dedicated though and at times his performances suffered as a result - to make matters even worse he struggled to get fights(this probably contributed to his lack of motivation. Really a tragedy of what happened to Sanders.... Dove in front of bullets to protect his daughter. a warrior in and out of the ring. South Africa is a corrupt hellhole. They're heading towards starting land reforms now.... In a couple of decades max it's going to be like Zimbabwe if things don't improve. Everyone wrote Wlad off after this and Brewster including his own brother. Yet he was able to pick up the pieces and went on to dominate the division for the better part of a decade in what was a run that makes him an ATG in the eyes of most and a lock for the HOF.
15 years shook. He probably wakes up in a cold sweat and nearly decapitates Haydn with an elbow jerking to an upright, seated position a few nights a week.
This was one of those “Oh ****!” moments that make boxing so special. It’s easy to forget now, but at the time Vlad was absolutely considered the heir apparent and next great thing following Lennox Lewis. At that time he wasn’t “Clinchko” or the jab and grab and lean safety first guy he would become. He was ridiculously athletic for his size, punched like hell and finished guys. Then came this semi retired southpaw with incredibly fast and heavy hands...Sanders absolutely looked more like the semipro golfer he was than a giant slayer - the type of guy that after a few shots of tequila would make me think to myself, “I can kick his ass, just look at him”.
