the frampton fight was the turning point. in all honesty as good as frampton is, quigg lost that fight rather than frampton winning it. when he applied himself in the second half he was too strong for frampton and that was with a broken jaw.

now, he for some reason only he will know, he has gone over to a gym where he wont be getting the attention he needs at this stage and he hasnt looked good at all. his style has a shelf life and as others have said he might well have had his time esp after taking some beatings over the years. its a shame because many people thought that he might come back strong after that close loss.

i read that he had a broken foot for this fight, which might explain the weight, but then shithouse tactics are a hallmark of the wildcard so who knows

I agree and it's funny cause Quiggs biggest hater is @lencoreastside who is a huge Frampton fan, if Quigg is so terribly awful like he makes out . what is Frampton then. that must mean Frampton is awful too by his logic.. Because Quigg was the stronger man when he finally let his hands go, and Frampton could only win a close, Split decision against him and Quigg had a broken jaw and messed up with his tactics!

Tbh quigg struggles badly with speed. If he came out open against frampton he would have been picked off and outboxed soundly. Knowing how strong quigg is and how good an engine hes got coming on strong late wasn't all that bad a plan against frampton. They we,re a little bit too late starting tho. Should have been finding a home for the body shots from early. The problem with the tactics at the higher weight is the guys take too much out you in them first six rounds for it to work. But your stuck as a trainer with quiggs limitations up at world level. That's his main problem. Doesn't have the speed/power. Coordination for the level. So they need to get by with him being the bigger/stronger man and using tactics to try to close the gap. His strength/bigger mans been negated with going up the weight a bit. And a lot of the world level guys will make you pay for the tactics last night. Was more open than Gallagher would have had him. As much as I don't like Gallagher and how much he made a mess of a few of Scotts fights...I m not sure anyone would get much more out of quigg. Think Moog I think said hatton. Not a bad suggestion tbh. Quigg doesn't really have the speed of foot or hand hatton had to get away with what hatton did tho. But could be a decent idea...bearing in mind Scotts a pretty good body puncher. And hatton was a great one.

Totally agree with roach. Its on the verge of being dangerous. Guy looks like he can't say what he needs to or wants to in that minute break. Can't understand why anyone would want him to be in the corner as good as the guys been in his career.
Yeah did test Valdez a few times. Do believe his tactics of old would have helped him a bit last night. Far too open from the start against a pretty clinical fighter in Valdez. Made quigg pay too much them first six rounds. Was a stupid fight to take tbh. Guy looked all wrong for quigg. Far too quick and punched pretty hard with it.

Valdez looked a bit too good overall to get mugged by quiggs tactics imo. Quigg got guys working hard without giving to much away...keeping relatively fresh against guys that we,re emptying their tank. The problem was Valdez pretty much took him apart...from the first round. Scott wasn't ever gonna be too fresh after a couple of rounds of that. He got him working...but it was good work Valdez was doing. Pretty much the way to beat Gallaghers negative tactics.

Roach should confine himself to leaning over the rope ,he is too slow getting in there now and it matters.

He did pretty well really, certainly lost the fight though. He hurt Valdez a fair bit and Valdez was able to hurt him - you have to wonder how different that would have been had he made weight. Quigg is a tough out for pretty much anyone but he isn't going to get any better. He's too easy to hit and as mentioned above he really struggles with speed. I actually thought Marriaga ran Valdez closer than Quigg did. All the same, with the right kind of fighter he can be in fun fights. Him against Mares would be cool

Now that the dust has settled on the controversy etc etc I have a couple of questions that I'd like answers to about the whole Quigg insurance/weight thing.

For starters do we have any independant proof that Quigg had a foot injury? Any x-Ray's or medical reports? I hate to be a bit cynical, but this is a serious issue. I don't feel a guy can simply make claims about stuff like this without backing them up with some evidence.

Secondly what were the in ring weights of the boxers? I hear Valdez rehydrated to 136. That's 10 lbs since the weigh in. Quite a lot but Valdez didn't look particularly bulked up...if anything he looked quite slightly built. I hear that Quigg was 142 in the ring. That's only 6 lbs heavier than Valdez. Yet he looked to be way more than 6lbs bigger than his opponent in the ring. If the Valdez figure of 136 is correct, and it seems to be...then the weight attributed to Quigg seems dubious.

Quigg was 142, Hearn confirmed that in the IFL interview (I think it was).

If he was 142 then the weight of 126 given For Valdez can't be right. The difference between them in there was more than 6lbs in my opinion. Valdez appeared slim and slightly built in there and Quigg looked much heavier, bigger, bulkier ....however you want to say it.

Addressing the first part - whenever something goes wrong for a fighter these days there was always a problem. A broken toe, a fractured foot, illness during camp, personal issues. Sometimes it may well be true but it’s getting diluted by the inevitable false claims (I’m not saying Quigg is one of these). I wish a few more fighters would just nip it in the bud and take the L with dignity and respect.

Don't get me wrong. I don't have a problem with Quigg....or anyone... Having an injury. That can happen to anyone at any time. But ...if say for example you can't do an exam or want an exam put off cos you are injured or whatever.. you have to produce evidence of the actual injury. That's only fair. Is there any documentation supporting Quiggs claim of having an injured foot?

Not a shred of evidence has been produced.

I highly doubt that Amir was eating 7,000 calories. Doubt it was even in excess of 4,000 max. These Welterweight boxers with slight physiques would never need to eat that much, even doing three or four training sessions a day, bearing in mind they are trying to make weight.

The foot injury only emerged very late. Initially Scott said the weight was fine right up to the day before the fight, when as usual he was 3lbs over. As it would be for any normal fight. He only hit trouble when the last 3 lbs wouldn't come off, he said, as it always had in the past. So if everything was normal with his weightup to the day before the weigh in, like he said, how therefore can he now say the foot injury hampered weight loss?
This appears to be a contradiction.

I'd say his body has matured and he may simply have to give up featherweight and go to 130. He looked a stone bigger than Valdez.
