Well he is hiding behind his promoterm, he certainly didnt do that for Hopkins. If Calzaghe fights Pavlik and beats him Calzaghe would have won me as fan. But Pavlik as dynamite power in both his hands, Pavlik would KO shot Jones in the 1st round and Calzaghe in the late round.
I agree, and an interview I saw last week (sorry, fight week had too many to remember which) had Pavlik saying "All the magazines and boxing news sources already have me as the Recognized MW Champion, so not really much need to chase around Sturm and Abraham". He did also say about AA he'll wait and see how the fight with Miranda unfolds, but heavily implied he's ready to move on up. Cameron Dunkin, (Pav's manager) said on a couple dif. interviews on HBO's site, that there's not **** left in MW for Kelly and all the big fights and $$ lies in SMW/LHW now. IMO, Kelly's ready to go for glory, and not record # of defenses in a sadly now **** division.:yep
Why should Pavlik be forced to run up to the next weight because cals retiring? He should unify the belts and if cal is still around-go up and whoop his ass then. Otherwise let cal come to pavlik if he wants him so bad right now.
Didn't read the article, link doesn't work for me, BUT: "Not ready" can mean: hasn't yet reached his full marketability potential. Pavlik has way more upside going for him than Manfredo ever had. Why not maximize the return? Could also mean: not yet experienced enough to beat Calzaghe. Could also mean that the writer was totally ****-faced. :think
RJJ is one of my all time favorite fighters, but I really hope he prices himself out of this fight or makes unreasonable demands. A fight with Calzaghe at this stage in his career would unfortunately be a bit too similar to the Hopkins fight. RJJ is super cautious and defensive now as a fighter and does not throw enough to beat Calzaghe. As was apparent in the JC/Hopkins fight, judges tend to score fights in favor of a fighter who throws a lot of punches whether they land or not and whether they are quality punches. I don't think judges care much for defense or effective counter-punching. RJJ should have obliterated Tito but was too gun shy to finish him. This will doom him against JC, especially in Cardiff. Warren, as usual is trying to cover for his fighter. He probably asked JC if he wanted to fight Pavlik and JC probably told him he was crazy. Warren then mistakenly twisted that into " Pavlik is not ready". What I think he meant by that was "Pavlik is not ready to be the greatest fighter on the planet after he knocks out JC in Wales".
One soft touch per year is plenty, so please no Mora in 2008. He needs to fight either Calzaghe or Abraham. If he can't get in with those two, perhaps they can work something out with Winky Wright. If not, have him move up to 168 and try his hand there. Mora needs to stay at 154.
They dont want none of Pavlik. He's a dangerous mother ****er and underated here and i woudlnt be suprised at all if Pavlik beat Calzaghe. I dont care what anyone say's.
