    Hello All,
I am new to this site and love what I am getting into!
I am working on a documentary film that has been a project of passion for me for some time. It is about Jews and there part in the great sport of boxing.
Mainly this film will cover between the First and the Second World Wars, but will also include some boxers after this time as well as before this time.

Here is a link to the Trailer I have put together so far, if you have time, please take a look and let me know what you think:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9gju_NuAVtY

Since making this trailer, I have interviewed a few other people, which is one of the reasons I am here. One of those interviews was Herbie Kronowitz. Here is a link to a segment I put together from his interview:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=arwJuRi_NMQ

As you can also see, I have interviewed Budd Schulberg. I have gotten a "Yes" from Dmitriy Salita and Yuri Foreman as well as Bert Sugar and even Dana Rosenblatt. I have spoken to Saul Mamby and a few other people I am excited to interview and put in this amazing project.

The footage in the Kronowitz segment other then the obvious ones, is not Herbie. I am also on the hunt for any footage of Jews who were boxers. I am hping some one here may have a lead for me to find that as well as other visuals I can use. I am also looking for any help or input any of you very passionate members may have, and want to share.

I am hoping this documentary while all about Jews, will serve all American Immigrants who fought, and shared this sport.

Please feel free to contact me with any help on any of this!

    Thanks so much.

Mike Rossman I believe was from New York. I believe he would be an interesting interview. His knickname was "The Jewish Bomber" if I recall correctly. Alphonse Halimi was from Isreal if memory serves right. Good luck with your project.

    What help do you need?

Historical re-search? Access to newspapers archives? Testimonials? Editing? Music? Voiceovers? A webmaster?

Based on your trailer, its looks like you have something special going.

Among the topics, I would add are:

Joe Louis vs Abe Simon, a match considered by Jews to be all Jewish match. Many Jews were rooting for Louis over Simon, and Simon was the Jewish fighter. That's how much Joe Louis meant to the Jews.

The Eastern European Jewish amateurs. Igor Vystrosky, a Russian heavyweight jew who beat the legendary Cuban T. Stevenson twice.

Ray Arcel. Perhaps boxing best trainer.

The neighbor wars of New York that matches ethic ghetos in Jews, Italians and Irish vs each other.

Thanks for all the kind words about the trailer, and the welcome!
Raging Bull, I sent you an email, but am not sure if you got it. Please let me know.
la-califa, I hear Mike Rossman is not very into interviews, but if you have any contact information for him, I sure would love to try!
Thread Stealer, that is a great book! I have spoken with the author, who is very into this project and seems like a great guy. Herbie Kronowitz is the boxer on the cover, I have interviewed him. Budd Schulberg has written the forward, I have interviewed him. There are a few other books that if you are into the topic, are great: The Jewish Boxers Hall of Fame, Barney Ross, Harry Haft.
Mendoza, I dig the screen name of the father of scientific boxing! Right now, I am looking for footage of the fighters, but any items anyone has that are scanned or electronic, i would be into hearing about. I have access to the New York TImes archive, but am into any ideas of other places to look. Any testimonials of people who have seen any of these fighters fight would be amazing, as well as any fans from "back in the day" would also be great!
    Rtpcity, Thanks for the link!

    Thanks everyone!

My father fought Herbie, beat him, with a broken right hand after the second round. I've got all the write-ups and would be happy to share them. But maybe it wouldn't serve your purpose. Did you not get my PM, where I gave you my email and telephone number? I know it's a long shot, but I'd appreciate an acknowledgement either way.

I've reconsidered this and now think I may be out of line. It should have been obvious that you don't have any footage of that fight. I've been searching so long and to no avail that I got a little overly excited at the mere prospect of it. My bad, I wish you the best. That said, if you have any interest in what I've got, it's yours. Godspeed and Good luck.

Something I just thought of, and this may be a bit of a stretch, but Max Baer's son, Max Baer, Jr., played Jethro on "The Beverly Hillbillies," and as far as I know he's still around. He might be of some help. Good luck.

    Chixkid,
I have spoken to Max Baers Assistant. For what ever reason, she is not really letting me get to him, and get an interview. That was a great idea, and one I had as well!
Jack, Thanks for the nice comment!
