Have been listening to some of the Mike Tyson pods recently (Bite the Mike) and while the content can be a bit hit and miss Mike's anecdotes from back in the day are fascinating there is a good episode when they get Lennox Lewis on. For Bunce fans he still does the William Hill boxing podcast every month.
Personally, I can't stand Bunce. Whenever he speaks he sounds like a demented ****** on helium. The best boxing pundit in Britain is unquestionably Colin Hart of The Sun newspaper, who has been writing about boxing for more years than I care to remember.
I agree with several of your points. The general output of the BBC is poor. There was a time when they covered all the major sporting events ,but now they have very few. In my opinion the BBC has long passed its sell by date.
Used to enjoy the Toe-Toe podcast but the pro sky hype machine became too much. I think it was the Murray-Rosado fight where they point blank refused to talk about the controversial scorecards- It was more censored that a Vatican porn channel. Online I enjoy the Boxing Gossip podcast
Best podcast at the moment Gave up on toe to toe a while ago. Fearon seems a nice bloke. Good luck to him but if I wanted to listen to someone shouting over everyone, making stuff up when they don’t know an answer and throwing random irrelevant words into a sentence i’d be sat with my kids.
Boxing Asylum is the best for me, covers every fight pretty much from the weekend and is always a nice long listen. Boxing Coalition is up there as well, was gutted that it stopped being a weekly pod. Costello and Bunce, Chris Mannix, Malignaggi are all good listens. Used to love Talksport but it's absolutely horrendous now that Adam Catterall presents it, terrible host and presenting style. Sky's is just a mouthpiece for Matchroom and Spencer Fearon is a clueless racist idiot who just drops names off boxrec and compares them to fighters nothing alike. HBO boxing podcast is also a good listen if you only want to hear about the HBO fights.
Really enjoying the Pound for Pound podcast but a few inaccuracies from this weeks...they named Hammer (alongside Thompson) as a drugs cheat when talking about how unlucky Price has been. They were obviously thinking of Teper. Bellew then comes on as guest and says exactly the same thing. To top it off, Bellew claimed AJ had prepared for a 6”7 Pulev in his last fight (an opponent he claimed was bigger than AJ) and instead faced 5” odd Takam. I know i’m being pedantic but Hammer wouldn’t be happy.
I do, been listening to bunce for 10 years now, love the man. Boxing gossip on youtube is a good laugh every Wednesday night
Gunna give the New Age one a go. The lad on Twitter seems sound. I'd sooner die than listen to ****ing Jake Wood do a podcast about boxing, he's absolutely clueless. As for Bunce, he's good to chat and has a lot of cool stories. he can be awfully hyperbolic when talking about British fighters though which gets a little tedious. Used to like the Boxing Asylum but switched off when taht Seb guy joined.
Lol I like Jake Wood because of Eastenders but I agree reading some of his Twitter posts over the years he doesn’t seem to have great knowledge of boxing. I’ve never listened to his podcast but I remember he had an IfL interview a few years back in which he didn’t really have many insightful things to say.
