Im kind of tired of all these threads matching Chavez against Welterweights when he never even fought there in his prime. The man was a jL,Lt,Jw not a welter.
Although Brown has the natural strength and power,here I really think the Smaller Chavez could have pulled this one out. Chavez by close decision in a war!
Brown would look to strong early and build an early lead,but for as hard hitting as Brown was i think Chavez would weather the storm and start putting on some heat himself in the later rounds with his more accurate shot. Chavez 115-113

 

Kind of unfair matchup, Brown was a big guy, but I would still go with Chavez, too much skill. Brown was a good puncher though. Are you thinking this might be like a Randall matchup for Chavez? Could be, but I think Randall had better overall boxing skills.

 

I agree with you Randall had way better skills than Brown,but Brown was the natrualy bigger and stronger guy. Although Randall was hard puncher himself.

 

Chavez never faced anyone as strong as Brown. Probably would've been a war but I'd take Simon via a late round stoppage.

 

Brown by late stoppage , this one is a bit unfair though as Brown was a big welter.

 

Although Chavez never did anything at welterweight, he was up against great fighters at WW. Pernell Whitaker at 145 and Oscar De La Hoya at 147 when JCC was 36 and DLH was an undefeated 25 year old.

I think JCC still could have won a title at WW if the division wasn’t so strong. Unfortunately, there wasn’t a supply of weak titlists at 147 in the 1990s as there was in the 21st century.

But Brown was far from a weak, or adverage, titlist. He was a very good fighter and would have beaten Chavez.
