That's what I've been telling myself to try and convince myself that Povetkin would even be remotely competitive against Joshua due to being a fan of him.

Unfortunately, when Joshua faces Povetkin, he:

    - Won't be facing him with a short notice like he faced Takam.

    - Would have improved even more than when he faced Takam.

    - Would be facing a Povetkin who is far more aggressive and leaves himself far more open than Takam.

Takam came to survive and still lost every round. Whilst Povetkin is going to most likely be more aggressive and that will be his undoing because he'll leave himself more open and he'll get brutally KO'ed just as badly, if not worse than Dillian Whyte did as a result and probably in much less time as well.

I give Povetkin a mere 5% chance of winning or probably even less today. This is a disgusting mismatch in all honesty! I can't even imagine the sheer torture Joshua is going to be inflicting on the brave Russian.

Meanwhile IN THE REAL WORLD they're trying to get Povetkin to fight Whyte instead of AJ because they know Joshua woud be in trouble :deal:

You seem very confident on Povetkin's chances at winning. I'll give you props for that though. I don't have the same confidence in him and I don't think Joshua deserves much credit if he wins this fight. At this point, Povetkin is just a Russian version of Dillian Whyte.

The only rematch that would make sense would be Parker, after around 1.5 years.
The other one is Whyte, even though their first fight wasn't close at all. There seems to be genuine animosity between the two which can bring excitement to the rematch. But I don't think Whyte can get past Povetkin.

Povetkin has better chances than anybody AJ has fought to date bar Klitschko. He's not going to whizz away his chances of a HW crown like Parker did. Povetkin is in the last stages of his career and he knows that he has to win big or that's it for him.

Joshua is a good big fighter, and clearly he hits hard. He's got a decent jab, an excellent uppercut and above average reflexes. He's stupidly strong. I think he's obviously the #1 dog in the division right now and I think he will mess Wilder up.

On the other hand Povetkin pushes the pace - something Joshua coesn't like - he hits hard, he hits accurately and he hits in combination. He's got a good chin and can slip well. What adds to his favour is that Joshua doesn't control space well and doesn't infight that well. In short - he's going to get hit, and quite a bit. The sick KO of Price - and it was a good version of Price - can't have done much to his stock with AJ's handlers. That's why they want him to "face Whyte first" and age Pov a bit more.

As I said earlier, I think that AJ probably has a bit too much for Povetkin at this stage of Sasha's career, but it's certainly not cut and dried and a dangerous fight for Joshua.

They're just trolling out of their disdain for Joshua. Deep down inside the know the Russian is too short and is no match for either of the heavyweight title behemoths.
I hope this fight happens. I want to see their individual faces when Povetkin is on his back looking at the ceiling and the sound of cheering crowed echoing in the background.
Povetkin fans might be the most quixotic crowed since Amir Khan. They're gonna learn the hard!

Wlad is the only one that looked like he was going to beat him, even though he's old and retired he's clearly the biggest threat and the biggest name. Even now I think it's a 50/50 fight, would be a huge event should the old champ come out of retirement.

Whyte would be my next choice, he hurt Joshua first time but gassed. He no longer has stamina issues and has looked a better fighter since that loss apart from the Chisora fight. Still would be a huge fight as both are popular and there is still beef between the two which the casuals will eat up.

Breazeale would be my 3rd choice. He has shockingly done quite well since losing to AJ. The wins over Ugonoh and Molina show he wasn't as bad as many thought when Joshua beat him. He's limited but dangerous, big, good chin, heart and power. He at the very least has a punchers chance and if he actually beats Pulev then his stock goes up a lot, hell he'd be better than all but one of Wilder's defences lol.

Christ , why would anybody want to see a Klitschko rematch.. People were arguing he was old and coming off a layoff last time... Now he's even older and would be coming off the same stretch of inactivity.

On top of that , AJ has clearly gotten a lot better. His jab has improved by miles , he's lighter and quicker on his feet , his movement is less clunky , his recreations and reflexes are faster / better and his stamina has improved greatly.
Don't understand why his fans would want to see him get beat up a second time.

Obviously the Parker rematch makes more sense.. You'll get a different fight the second time without that stupid ref.

Fair point! I take no issues with that. All I can say is, if Povetkin can put up a better fight against Anthony Joshua and give Joshua more problems than let's say, 39 year old Hasim Rahman did against Povetkin or Ray Mercer did against Wladimir Klitschko, then I'll give Povetkin immense props and that alone would be a tremendous accomplishment, in and of itself.

And as a fan of him, I do hope you're correct and Povetkin's advantages enable him to win. Especially if it's via KO! And there's no outcome that I would like better than that. However, whatever way I look at it objectively, I can't help but think that this seems like a disgusting / gruesome mismatch against the brave little Russian. And despite Povetkin being better than Takam and Parker, it's his come forward and sometimes ultra-aggressive style that seems like it'd be his downfall against Joshua in my opinion. Although I hope not though!

If it's a close enough fight, then it may tell us who would've been the favorite to win if Povetkin was still in his prime.

When a boxer in his physical prime (late 20's or early 30's) is involved in a very close fight that is close to 50/50 in terms of competitiveness against a past his best boxer around the age of 40, as was the case between Anthony Joshua and Wladimir Klitschko. It tells us that if the past his best boxer was in his prime, he'd be the favorite to win.

However, if a prime boxer lopsidedly beats the past his best boxer as was the case with Mike Tyson destroying Larry Holmes, then it tells us that Mike Tyson would've been favorite to beat any version of Larry Holmes.

Whyte is the best of the lot, first fight was entertaining and Whyte did manage to trouble him in spots. Klitschko would be next but he's getting too old now, I personally would rather Klitschko just stay retired.

None of the other fights are interesting in the least, either not competitive or boring fights.

no rematches at the moment / fresh faces is what i want to see and top 10 only

    wilder
    miller
    pulev
    povetkin
    ortiz

i think he beats tehm all with wilder having the x factor of being in with a chance all fight even if he is being schooled

    usyk /gassiev
especially usyk with his speed /height /length and technical abilty poses IMO the biggest style headache to joshua

not going to hurt joshua but could outbox him
albeit that fight is 2 years away at the earliest.

Wlad - He will not comeback, and at 42 or 43, will have declined even more even if he did. I'm fine with the one.

Whyte - That Browne win means nothing, Lucas was a fat 40 year old, I'd take a look at the Helenius or Chisora fight for a realistic look at where Whyte stands. However, it's easy to make and market, and if Whyte where to beat a genuine contender like Povetkin then it's fine I suppose.

Parker - In 2 years or so fine. Parker wasn't disgraced and he can come down the line.

The rest - Pointless, unless everyone is wrong about their level, these guys should be one and done.

Overall, I just want to see him against new faces, but Whyte or Parker would be the only two that could feasibly happen. The others only should if AJ wishes to keep a belt if one becomes mandatory.

Klitchko is too far removed out of the ring ,and fans simply make excuses about age so what's the point Joshua handing him a second loss?

Whyte is by far harder to predict and fights erratic at times. He has fought Joshua more than once and has a better handle on him not too mention he has beat him before even though it was an amateur fight, that's motivation.

I'm still not sure you can say with certainty Parker is a harder opponent than Whyte. People can think what they want but Whyte has the best body punches out of the list and that seems to be the punch that Joshua is most susceptible too.

    Whyte!
