Can we stop taking the mick out of Price now?

I think people can be a bit harsh on Audley. He went through a lot to beat Sprott - a man who had already once flattened him - whilst badly injured for his European title. People totally forget/ignore that.

    This.

We got exactly what the fight was supposed to deliver. A highlight reel knockout for Povetkin, and a semi-redemption arc for Price where he can at least say he committed to his punches and had a top 5 heavyweight in trouble.

The finishing sequence was unsettling. You can argue that if he had landed the hook on Povetkin a minute earlier, or really jumped on him the next round that he could have finished the job. However, that would be missing the point. The finish showed (if it wasn't clear enough already) that Price is alarmingly open to concussive, brutal knockouts, and that is what would inevitably await him more often than not at world level.

I don't get into the glass jaw **** and disrespecting fighters, but the fact of the matter is that Price reacts to punches differently than world-class heavyweights. There's no shame in that as it applies to most people on the planet, but if there was any feeling of unsettled business all doubt must have been eliminated. There really isn't any way forward; whatever people say about the state of the heavyweight division, there are some big guys with dangerous power filling out the top 10.

I was willing him on 100% as well. Nice bloke, got balls and imho deserves a big payday to set him up for life. I don't know his finances, but I suspect he has a nice house and a few quid, but not enough to sit back and enjoy life without getting the pipe benders out in the future. He was so close on Saturday.

He looked as good as he's ever looked and that was against the best fighter he's faced.

He can stick around but keep it to British level. Go for the Allen fight.

Respect to Price for getting in there with Povetkin, put up a good fight while it lasted.
For those demanding that others stop mocking him, are you also going to stop mocking Amir Khan? He has achieved far more than Pricey and got in there with much better fighters p4p. !

But Price doesn't keep telling everyone how good he is, or splashing his love life all over the media..

Price really needs to retire. Several fights ago.

I don't think people (ie. most of us) who take the mick and call him glass jawed etc. are doing him a great disservice because most of us seriously feel he shouldn't be carrying on. Reminding a man that he's got a glass jaw isn't a bad thing, esp. when he's taking on fighters who are likely to knock him out.
It's like pointing out to someone they shouldn't attempt that 120kg bench press when you just saw them fail to lift 100kg ! It's going to end in tears and tears.

Price is heading for brain damage at this rate.
    That Povetkin KO was brutal.

I'm not so sure I agree. Of course the safe thing for any boxer to do would be to retire but guys like Holyfield and Foreman took 10x the punishment Price has thoughout their careers. If he wants to keep at it he needs to prove to himself he can beat a tough, lighter hitting opponent like a Duhapas or a Hammer rematch. His Povetkin performance would probably have been enough against those caliber opponents.

Holyfield and Foreman might have taken 10x as much force but they weren't sparked out and brutally KO'd like Price was.
It's not healthy to take any punishment but those concussive types of KOs and a very big factor in acquiring damage to the brain in later years, I think.

Hopefully not but I certainly wouldn't want to see Price carry on.

Ive always liked Price..not going to stop supporting him just because how his carrer has gone.

Price IS the man...people saying they want him to retire is all good and well but how else is the man going to make a living.
He might not be the greatest, his stamina is poor but no-one can say his fights aren't entertaining. He is a grown man, he knows the dangers of boxing and he is choosing to fight on so i will always support him. He a real one...where as you just some **** poor poster on a forum lol.

Just reminiscing about this. What a fight. How close did Price actually come to winning? Povetkin nearly got knocked in to next week.

Then what a stoppage by Povetkin. Brutal.
