Why did Wilder turn down $7M to fight Whyte to take $2M to fight Ortiz?

Legacy, I guess. He has quite the ego, and I think the continuous talk of his then abysmal resume was genuinely annoying him into taking action. Props to him, I say.

I knew Ortiz was off his PED’s now, and had looked not as impressive in his last few fights. Ortiz was a less risky option, and we all know that is Wilder first option.

The offer to Wilder was made long before the Stiverne 2 fight was scheduled so legacy wasn’t part of the thinking!

Partly because he fancied he could beat Ortiz who was the better win, and partly because he didn't want to dance to Hearn's tune.

Ortiz was the easier fight. Simple as that. Why fight someone on the rise in their prime when you can get more credit for beating a easier opponent

Ortiz easier than Whyte? Ortiz would manhandle Whyte, who struggled against Chisora.

Why do people want to see Wilder fight Whyte, rather than AJ? Whyte is utter garbage who would get spectacularly knocked out against Wilder, Povetkin, Ortiz, and likely some other lower tier heavyweights as well.

    lol arrogant brit attitude.
Whyte is a bum, Ortiz would knock the **** out of him
Ortiz is two classes above Whyte in every aspect
Whyte might be a bit faster but with the ring iq of Ortiz and his great footwork he doesn't even need to be faster on his feets
Whyte would not see the eight round vs Ortiz who fought Wilder last month

There's no way he was getting 7 million to fight whyte in the first place.

Deontay Wilder has always avoided strong young opponents.

He prefers to fight old, faded, overweight, out-of-shape guys.

He wanted that fat old cuban hype job on heart medications

Fair chance ortiz keeled over from a heart attack due to exertion and wilder woulda had that body on his resume

The $7m doesn't pass the smell test as Whyte has never sold a ppv. Was plucked out the air by Hearn on the basis Wilder vs anybody Brit might be SBO box office. Reality, it was a regular Sky Sports or BT fight that would not have paid Wilder anymore than the $2m he got for Ortiz.

Like a spoilt child he didn't want to be told what to do.

In his mind he is the man and everyone will dance to his tune.

The is why I suspect AJ v Wilder may not happen.
