Pavlik's not going to be the man at MW for many years because he's not going to stay at MW. After Abraham, there is no one left to fight in that division. The big fights, and the big money fights, will be at SMW (Kessler, Bute, Miranda again, Taylor again, eventually Dirrell), and eventually LHW.
Thats correct. But it was his "he can be out boxed" statement that set me off. MW, SMW or Lt. HW, who ever KP gets in there with, that guy is gonna have to do some amazing things in the ring to 1.) survive & 2.)possible come out victorious against Pavlik.
Very true. You almost have to expose yourself to a KO to get the opportunities to beat him on points. The real test will come when he fights a great defensive fighter. I'm not sure how he'd do against a prime Toney or Hopkins. But I don't see anyone like that out there now.
There really are alot of new believers out there, with many more to follow. This is just the beginning! :!:
Good post, but let me add a couple points. The thudding jab is not always thudding, on many occassions he simply flicks it into his opponents eyes without even closing his glove. He uses that tactic to disguise the right hand that is already on the way! Pavliks defense is way better than people give him credit for. A lot of shots that land have nothing left on them because Pav moves his head just enough to take the sting off. That technic allows him to stay in position and keep moving forawrd. Body punching is something Pavlik has always been good at. He head hunts when head hunting works. He has ended fights with left hooks and lead rights to the body. A lot of people on this board have only seen Pav in his most recent fights, ie JT and Miranda. If that's all they've seen, they haven't seen half of Pavliks full arsenal.
Pride -- you're halfway there. put a really good counter puncher with a great chin, and real fire power in front of Pavlik, and he may very well lose that zero on his record! It might look something like Danny Lopez vs Salvador Sanchez.
With PBF "retired" if Cotto beats Margarito and Pavlik beats Calzaghe I'd have it 1; Cotto 2; Pavlik 3; Pacman But I wouldn't argue with someone who switched those 3 around a bit.
Pavlik is young and improving.I've seen his last 7 or 8 fights and he has progressed from a lanky kid with power and average skills to a focused world class wrecking ball - and he still has lots of room for further improvement. If he takes care of Abraham and Calzaghe ( both tough fights at this point) i see no one on the horizon who could take his belts.
I just made this point in another thread. Just because he doesn't make BIG movements doesn't mean they aren't effective. The thread starter mentioned focus. A big cat, when running down it's prey, keeps its head almost perfectly level. So, Pavlik using 'slight' head movements also helps him to maintains his focus. Also, everyone lauds his finishing skills, even his detractors, but you don't get to use your finishing skills if you don't have SETUP SKILLS.:deal
And just pray tell us who you see on the horizon at MW that even has a prayer right now? He is the 300 pound gorilla in the chimpanzee cage.:yep
Yep. A few of us were commenting on that after the fight. No one would have blamed Lockett for walking over and popping him one. Hell, we would have loved it.
