I'd completely forgotten this fight was happening. Zero publicity which shows that no one really cares about Degale anymore. A great example for younger fighters of how not to manage your career.
One last payday against Eubank and that'll be it. I can't say I'l be sad to see the back of him, one of the most unlikable fighters I can remember.

I think the only “money” fight degale should go for us Eubank Jnr... they can generate decent numbers with the needle they both have for each other ... promotion can be “beefffff” again which the British public lap up for some reason

If he tries unifying with the WBSS winner or if GGG steps up to 168 he’s going to get hurt bad

Horrible fight! They both lost! DeGale needs to retire, he looked awful and so did Truax...............

Truax looked too heavy to me...timing was way off early doors, but if he wins last round he is still champ!!that is how bad DeGale is now...Every fight is a war and imo Badou Jack finished him

    Utzcategui will destroy him

Set my alarm for it. Degale said that even if he won, the manner of it would determine whether he would continue boxing. Well, that was a very close fight. Truax showed better ring generalship, forcing the pace but like Degale, showed nothing with the jab, hence the awful hug fest. Degale landed a few more clean shots which edged it for him.
That made my mind up about the shoulder. He has no jab, and once again couldn’t keep Truax off him, burning off loads of energy as a result. It’s sad to see but he’s done. Junior would bust him up so bad. He’s had a great career but he needs to retire a champion now.

DeGale wont retire, he will have another fight I think.

Glad I watched it on record. The ref was terrible which played into Truax's hands more than DeGale's. He refused to break them time after time despite them being tangled throwing no punches. And then when DeGale tried to break himself he had a point taken away.

I want to say that Truax is a bogeyman - hard to look good against. Especially for a southpaw I thought - I think Truax would be more open to an orthodox jab and right hook.

The cut was unlucky for DeGale and when you throw in the ref's performance and Truax's anti-boxing, you can argue we didn't see what he's got left.

If he really is done then I'd rather it not be Eubank Jr who gets to feast on the scraps - we'd never hear the end of it. And it would be better for DeGale to be KO'd clean by Groves or Smith rather than damaged by a thousand of Jr's pitter patter punches.

Truax seemed to come in heavy to help in the clinch and wear De gale down without really throwing shots. He was happy to go into the clinch and then have De gale push him off over and over again. Truax was something like 180 in the ring and it showed. He looked fleshy and slow and he didnt have the punch output of the first fight. Over trained? Over weight?

De Gales jab was there at times but he rarely throws more than single shots - almost like he doesn't believe he can keep people off so he walks at times almost runs from corner to coner burning energy and his fitness is clearly not top level. Either that of he just has a small gas tank he cant improve.

Bryd was awful can we not deduct him points, He didn't break the fighters when nothing was happening. He missed the headbutt that caused the cut over De gales eye and said 'i didn't see it but I called it a punch' and the point deduction... clueless again

It was a messy ugly fight. I gave it to De Gale a little wider than the 114-113 i really wasn't impressed with Truax in this fight. I wasn't impressed with De Gale's corner either 'just work James' was they seemed to say

Hard to know where he goes next.. Go for an aging vet like Abraham, or Brahmer just to get another defense in and see how the shoulder holds up. Or does he go for what could be a cash out V Groves. On that performance there is only one winner. Maybe he should line Eubank up so it the hype machine can build it up into a big domestic clash nd generate him a decent pay day.

Degale has had a decent career and winning ,defending and now regaining the title in the States is a tribute to him. Unfortunately his career which is probably approaching the end has been hampered by not having a fan base . Personally he comes over as someone who is hard to like , certain fighters like Ali and perhaps Naz can brag and Rubbish their opponents and still have some "charm" but Degale makes you cringe ! He is without a promotional deal but I am sure Warren , Hearn or Kalle would put him in with one of their fighters to relieve him of the IBF strap.
