Not many sports/industries that continuously don’t deliver what it’s consumers want

    Obviously this has been going on for years, Mayweather-Pacquaio being the obvious example.

    Now we have a scenario where Wilder and Joshua have both won the equivalent of heavyweight tournament semi finals, over the space of a month. They presumably both want the fight, the public definitely want it and they will both make a shed load of money. It will also gives them the chance unify the division completely, something that may not be possible down the line given the politics with the sanctioning bodies. Yet it isn’t going to happen.

    Hearn wants Wilder-Whyte, but is keen to avoid public backlash after the last time he tried to force it. So now he is being less obvious. He obviously sees it as a an easy way to generate 3 PPVs (Povetkin-Joshua and the Joshua-Wilder in the ‘final’ being the other two). In my opionion the WBA ‘forcing’ Joshua to fight Povetkin is an easy escape to avoid the Wilder fight. I’m sure he will be telling ‘Kugs’ all about it his next piece of IFL propaganda. If so, there is no way the WBA would force that fight, it’s just a deflecting mechanism. We won’t get Joshua-Wilder next because Hearn doesn’t want it. Yet the nearly everyone who’s surname is not Hearn or Whyte does.

    How does this continue to happen?

    A lot more money to be made if whyte fights wilder first, AJ won’t travel so I think Hearn will look to get AJ vs povetkin and wilder vs whyte on the same card in the U.K. first.

    Hopefully by that time Fury will be back in the mix but he needs to face a fairly good opponent in his return otherwise he’ll miss the boat

    Joshua will make the same regardless. Aside from Fury and Wilder where he will get more and linear/undisputed honours if he wins. Wilder fighting Whyte makes Hearn/Whyte more money that’s all.

    Hearn needs to make 5-6 PPVs a year and he has got F’all PPV fighter. He knows Whyte won’t beat Wilder and he probably doesn’t care either way as long as it takes place.

    Joshua had just fought the WBO champion. Wilder has just fought a top heavyweight for the first time. I don't think it's really that big a deal if Joshua has to fight another high calibre opponent (Povetkin) before fighting another unification fight.

    I'm also not so sure the public are clamouring for Joshua Vs Wilder all that much tbh. Wilder still isn't that well known. I think Hearn is trying to build the fight up so that it is a mega fight that the public are desperately excited to see.

    Greed, money and politics pretty much. Witter/Hatton, Khan/Brook, Pac/Floyd etc. Fighters waiting for the 'right' or advantageous time for sporting or financial benefits, rival promoters and TV companies, too many different belts and associations. Fighters scared to lose the 0. Groves and Degale meeting early on was a huge breath of fresh air years back... it's a shame the Okolie and Chamberlain fight was gash as that could have been refreshing for the sport!

    There’s not a chance they’re on the same card. Two separate PPV’s.

    I agree. Joshua has just had a mandatory then a unification and now possibly another mandatory in Povetkin and then another unification in Wilder. I don’t know how anyone can criticise that. Don’t get me wrong I’d love the Joshua - Wilder fight next probably more than anyone! But it’s not like AJ is sitting here cherry picking bums with voluntary defences like Wilder has done for 3 years.

    Well just look at lennox lewis career.

    Prime Holyfield? Nope

    Prime Tyson? Nope

    Riddick Bowe? Nope

    Klitschko 2? Nope

    Check floyds career

    Prime anyone? Nope

    Paul williams?

    You can't really compare boxing to any other sport, theres too much money, too much politics, so many injuries, risks etc.
