Jones could of and should of retired undefeated it was only till he moved up and started to get beat with ease sad that he's still trying so hard to pull of the younger moves he had shame really could of gone down with 1 loss on his record to a even better middleweight could of took tougher fights in his prime if he really wanted to but still one of the best fighters alive still

It’s funny to me in the other thread you criticize Duran’s resume, and in this thread you criticize Roy Jones...yet you’re a huge pernell Whitaker fan....talk about a guy with an unimpressive resume

What about Floyd being 34-38 years old when he was taking on these younger fighters?

You are looking at age as though everything is equal. He is a defensive fighter. Fact is he handpicked guys at the right time. This is about fairness.

Legacy wise for me, Roy needed to fight Michael Nunn and I will shout that until I'm blue in the face ... I wanted to see that one..

Is this thread really all about people wanting to say that Jones really had a weak chin and always did have a weak chin but it was only when he lost his speed and reflexes and was hit flush that his supposed weak chin was exposed for all to see?

Should just have said that instead of this charade about avoiding big punchers.

At which weight. Jones was brilliant, and a pound for pound type of business man in terms of when to make the fight.

I don't think Tarver or Johnson were big time hitters at 175, but they badly Ko'd Jones. Jones vs DM would have been nice. At heavyweight, Jones would not fight Sanders, Lewis or Klitschko. All three fights were offered. He did fight Ruiz, and it was a very good win considering Jones' size, but Ruiz wasn't a puncher.

Just making a point Jones did avoid some matches vs Punchers.

I think that Jones wasted his prime to be honest.

He had the talent to beat anybody, but he avoided the risks.

He should have just gone after all the best, and he would have ended up in credit, even if he had picked up a loss or two.

It was almost like Harry Greb hand picking his opposition, to avoid the risky fights.

Tarver and Johnson got lucky catching Roy on the slide.

And I can't criticize a former 160lb champ for not moving up to fight 240lb power punchers. The size disparity would be like Willie Pep fighting Marciano. He picked a heavyweight he had a chance of beating but it was a heavyweight all the same. And one who had knocked Holyfield down. OK, Evander was done by the time he fought Ruiz but he still showed good durability after those fights. Ruiz' power should not be dismissed completely. It still took some guts for a natural (large) middleweight to step up and chance his arm against him.

I don't see when that fight could have happened though. By the time Jones was looking to move up to SMW in '94 where Nunn had been since 1991, Michael was losing to the likes of Steve Little and Frankie Liles. I agree, prime for prime, it would have been great but it just wasn't quite going to happen in real time, in my view.

the alamo dome, a certain julio ceaser chavez comes to mind. when you have a sold out crowd comprised mainly of hispanics QUIET at the end of a chavez fight, you know who actually won!
