Joe Calzaghe will not destroy Kelly Pavlik should they fight.

He's just downplaying Calzaghe so he can come in and say 'even a shot Calzaghe blows out top fighters now', we know the drill with CHJ.

He's been doing this for 2 years Scar, I wish he posted more though, when he was active he became very creative and found new ways to hype Joe and other boxers.

IMO the most intriguing aspect of a Calzaghe-Pavlik matchup would be to see who's work rate would be imposed on the other. Calzaghe likes to have a big work rate against average fighters, but picks his shots more against the more dangerous opponents like Kessler and Hopkins. I would imagine Calzaghe trying to slow it down and counter Pavlik, then tying him up and spinning Pavlik to frustrate him. The big question is, does Pavlik keep his work rate at the ridiculous level that we normally see, or does he slow it down because he keeps missing Calzaghe so much?

That is what this fight comes down to. It won't be similar to Kessler-Calzaghe due to the fact that Kessler never had a big work rate in the first place. Can Pavlik keep working at 80-100 punches thrown per round? He will have to do it to be able to win.

Also, all the comparison's between Kessler and Pavlik are just stupid and ignorant. Have the people who are comparing the two actually watched them fight? Kessler is all about timing and finding his one shot power shots without much volume, where Pavlik overwhelms with volume and accumulative power. Totally different gameplans and execution.

That is true. I can't see JC destroying KP but the reverse is possible with KP's power. In all likelihood it will be a good contest. JC won't be able to accumulate enough punches to KO Pavlik and Pavlik will keep him honest with his heavy hands. JC is a soutpaw that can be susceptible to the straight right but he has had the belt for 10 years and beaten plenty of righties.

JC is very fast and will win rounds on his skills. KP will use his stamina and power to try to beat JC into submission, similar to the second JT fight.

Honestly, I think JC is too crafty to get hit flush too many times by Pavlik. JC was able to outbox Kessler who is a very strong boxer-puncher. What makes Pavlik any more special?

KP might be shown up in this fight or he may prove to the world how good he is.

One thing to consider, Joe's Dad Enzo has seen KP up close and knows the capabilities of his son JC. He won't take the fight if he thinks his son is going to get detroyed by KP. Therefore, you know if the fight does go ahead that it should be close unless Enzo has made a big mistake. If the fight doesn't go ahead Enzo is chicken or the money isn't worth the risk, because right now it is close to one of th biggest money fights to be made. Maybe Enzo would prefer KP to duke it out with Abraham or Miranda first to soften him up. Problem is JC isn't getting younger.

I'd say JC by close UD or SD.

I would pick Calzaghe by Points, but Pavlik certainly isn't as bad as some here make out. He will give Calzaghe a hard fight. Joe lost rounds against Bika FFS, but he isn't going to vs Pavlik??? Where does that logic come from???

Bad version of Joe vs. Bika, no sparring, hand injury. Had he trained right and fought tactically, Bika would have been shut out.

Pavlik has a very good chin, i don't know where this myth of his glass jaw came from. The guy took bombs from a big puncher in Miranda, then copped 10 straight hard punches from Taylor before going down, only to get straight back up. Even against Lockett, when hit he was totally unfazed. I think he has a very good chin. Sure, with Abrahams power he "could" knock him out, but it is unlikely. Abraham couldn't knock out Shannon Taylor FFS, and has taken a lot of time to finish some sub par opposition. His power is pretty over rated IMO, by those who say it is equal to Pavliks.

Abraham produces true KO's, Pavlik grinds them down. Abraham takes too much time because of his low activity style, Pavlik works like hell to get those KO's throwing a high workrate.

Abraham definitely has more 1 punch KO power. Pavlik sparks people after a serious beatdown always, Abraham sparks them with a single punch generally and they are ****ing OUT, not TKO'd, but sparked unconcious.

Well I'm going to have to disagree here.

I think Abraham, hits harder with one punch than Pavlik, despite his lower KO ratio against weaker competition. Here is why I believe this

To me, Abraham doesn't look for the knockout as much as Pavlik. Not saying KP is Mike Tyson like and comes bombing out of the corner, but he puts a lot of pressure on people, throws every punch with bad intentions and keeps a high workrate.

Abraham, on the other hand, fights in a shell for a good proportion of the round, fights more off the backfoot, lower workrate but when he does explode with punches, he can do extreme damage.

Pavlik changed the first fight with jermain with one great right hand. It wasn't a beat down at that point, no way in hell. Have you watched Pavlik earlier in his career? The guy has awesome power, and he has shown it in recent times as well. Look at how much he was hurting Lockett even through the gloves... Abraham has the more exciting knockout reel, YES. Punch for punch though pavlik is harder... More importantly, Pavlik throws consistently with power. Abraham doesn't always. Abrahams KO's look more impressive, because he finishes with hooks and uppers, where as Pavlik just sticks to his bread and butter for the most part.

Well in a way i agree with you and Amsterdam actually. I think Pavlik is consistently much more powerful. Abraham maybe slightly more explosive.... Still, IMO power is measured with every punch, not just loading up a big hook on an overmatched opponent at the end of the fight. It shows by the guys who have gone the distance with him. Jantuah, an old Eastman, Shannon Taylor..... These guys were all outclassed by Abraham also. If his power was that great, he would be knocking them out. You can't tell me he didn't land clean on these guys all fight.

Not a total beatdown, but Pavlik definitely wore Taylor down with consistent work, landed many flush right hands just as good as the finisher prior to it and Taylor's stamina had been dropping from all of that landed clean work. It wasn't a 1 punch KO, it was an accumulation stoppage, not a 'beatdown' like against Zertuche, but done in accumulation work.

Yeah but was Lockett not beaten down in accumulation? Hurt and KTFO are two different things, Abraham would picked the right spot against Lockett and would have landed a monster bomb and I don't know if Lockett would have gotten back up.

Abraham's punches are also sharper and harder in appearance on video.

I disagree, I don't know how much more I can highlight that Pavlik does high damage in accumulation and then sparks them and Abraham throws at a very low workrate and lands monster bombs that spark these guys flat out, twist their entire heads around in the process.

Yeah, Pavlik's a more effective fighter overall, Abraham has more 1 punch power.

Pavlik throws hooks and uppers also, they just aren't as crushing. Abraham's workrate is low, he's inactive, wastes time and picks spots, then he explodes with massive bombs. The guy's as hard a hitter as they come and has sparked some guys flat OUT who had good chins. Not TKO's, I mean truly out, 5 minutes.
