OSCAR De La Hoya is committed to one more fight in 2008 before retiring, saying "one more and that's it ... this is my final year".
"I'm doing one fight and hanging up the gloves," De La Hoya said.
De La Hoya, 35, previously had planned one bout in December after fighting Floyd Mayweather, but he said on Thursday that he would now have just one fight in 2008 after plans for a rematch against Mayweather were scuttled last week by that boxer's retirement.
He said he was committed to fighting at 70kg, meaning any opponent would have to adjust to that weight.
"Manny Pacquiao is calling me out. He can jump up two or three weight classes and challenge me," De La Hoya said.
"There's an interesting fight happening, Miguel Cotto against (Antonio) Margarito (on July 26), that should be interesting to watch. Maybe I can get the winner. We'll see."
De La Hoya rose to fame by winning a gold medal for the United States at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, and he won the nickname "Golden Boy" for his good looks and wholesome image.
He won professional acclaim by defeating Julio Cesar Chavez in 1996 and has won championships at six weight classes.
He has a win-loss record of 39-5 with 30 knockouts.

I told you so!!! It's Happening.

He is going to choose Cotto , and If Cotto beats Marg and DLH, Floyd will unretire and fight Cotto for big bucks.

Good Cotto vs De la Hoya is the biggest fight that can be made right now, and will probably lead to Cotto vs Floyd.......

And De La Hoya will get that war that he claims he is seeking before he retires. If he fights Cotto he better to be ready to go 12 hard rounds because fading after 8 rounds against that beast is not advisable for your health...

Diaz is going to hurt Oscar's wallet...

Southpaws just aren't there for Pacquiao's straight left. If Diaz keeps the pressure on, he'll eek out at least a draw (see Agapito Sanchez).

Oscar will be put on the spot to fight the winner of Margarito-Cotto and will ultimately choose a lower risk opponent.

If Hatton will waste time with Mallinaggi, Pac will go after DLH in September. If Hatton- Mallinaggi will not happen then it will be Pac-Hatton around November. Then The Cotto-DLH will happen around December but it all defends if Cotto will beat Margarito. If Margarito win, the it will Pac-DLH in September/December.

If DLH will have a Free time to pick, he will pick Pac instead of Cotto. Pac is Proven to be the Bigger Draw and the Current #1 P4P. It will the Bigger fight than Cotto-DLH.

If I had my way no one would fight De La Hoya, they'd all tell him to **** off, and he would finally retire unsatisfied.....

Or he can fight the Cotto Margo winner and get beat to a bloody pulp....

    EITHER WAY

Did Oscar De La Hoya really name Manny Pacquiao?

Pacquiao is a Jr. Lightweight - Oscar is a Welterweight, and that's at his LIGHTEST nowadays.

How would they match - some kind of Jr. Welterweight-ish catchweight? Furthermore, does anyone actually think Pacquiao would have a chance against a great, larger opponent such as De La Hoya?

But otherwise, the winner of Cotto-Margarito SHOULD fight Oscar De La Hoya. That would be a great, superfight the fans deserve, and a great close to the career of the one and only "Golden Boy".

It would be absolutely disgraceful to retire with a win over Pac. A TKO loss to Cotto after taking a big beating, showing great heart in his last fight would be a more honorable way to go out.

Like I said, I don't understand the logic behind a De La Hoya-Pacquiao fight. It makes absolutely no sense to me.

But De La Hoya vs. the winner of Cotto-Margarito, that would be a great close to a great career.

Who knows, the winner of THAT fight could end up fighting Mayweather, which would be truly fantastic. Doubt that all happens, but I hope it does. :bbb

Brooklyn believes that exact thing jecxbox said will happen too. I would be surprised if Floyd stayed retired in that situation. We will get to see Cotto destroy Floyd one day.. we'll just have blue balls for a while.
