WHAT IF?? WINKY didnt get robbed against VARGAS??

    THEN Winky would get the shot at Tito first...shut him out in a one sided fashion...calling TITO "exposed"...TITO would retire...BHOP would never get that KNOCK OUT VICTORY, and his status in history wouldnt be in the position he is in as much...Winky wouldve outboxed...YES OUTBOXED oscar de la hoya...considering what Sturm did...WINKY wouldve gone against BHOP....I mean, a robbery can really change the course of history...I was smoking some weed and got this flash sequence of events of that if winky wouldnt have ever gotten "jobbed" by the judges during that Vargas fight??? ... then other's come into play...If sturm didnt get robbed against Delahoya....sturm vs. hopkins?? if santa cruz wasnt robbed against casamayor... santa cruz vs. katsidis??? ... and it goes on

    i think over time with vargas declineing it's hard to believe he beat winky so more and more people think it was a rob job

    It was a close fight, not a robbery. They didn't take away Winky's win, possibly the draw. But contender doesn't get title for draw.

    And NO WAY that fight was a statement. No new star was born. Winky still could not get his shot at Trinindad because a close win over more hyped Vargas couldn't make him a star of Vargas caliber. Vargas was more entertaining, he was a better puncher. He also beat Campas, Quartey and Marquez to become a marketable opponent for Tito. There were a lot of job for Winky to gain marketability, and his unpleasent style could do him a bad service.

    Vargas at that point was a great fighter, also Winky as in the JT fight kind of let the last round go in a very close fight.

    Exactly.

    Like in every other close Winky loss, he was outhustled in the championship rounds. Hard to blame the judges when it's something he's done consistently.

    kinda like the leonard hagler fight ..after years and years we've been fed that it was controversial but when we watch it it's hard to give hagler more then 6 rounds

    CDBK you just hit the nail on the head, Winky was'nt robbed in that fight, people who have never seened the fight think just because Vargas lost to the other top togs of the division(Tito,Oscar,Shane) so they assume that because he has a win over Winky that it must have been a robbery:-(

    Winky was a slightly different fighter back then and SO WAS TITO so that fight would have gone extremely different.

    Its hard to believe but Winky was seen at the time as a run of the mill defense for FV. I myself dont hink it was a robbery, but it was a GREAT fight, a hidden gem type.
