Overrated = more money, more fame, more praise.

Underrated = Less money, less fame, less praise, but you know deep down your a better fighter.

Overrated. You must be doing something right if people are overrating you. Tyson is considered one of the most overrated heavyweight champions of all time, but for all of the criticism he get he sure did rake in a ton of money and a ton of former champions wished they accomplished half of what Tyson did in his career.

    I don’t know.
If being underrated comes with not being able to land proper fights and shots at titles then I’d prefer to be overrated.

    Otherwise, definitely underrated.
Yeah, hype jobs get a lot of spotlight and money follows it but it’s also a lot of pressure and hard work to maintain that fake image.
All of that just for some extra green paper? Nope.
I like things simple and there’s nothing easier than just being yourself, even if it means getting 5 million instead of 50.

Overrated. Boxing isn't a forgiving sport for some underrated fighters who never get the shine they deserve. Meanwhile look at a guy like Broner who is at best a good fighter but not great, yet he headlines cards, makes millions and gets press.

    Agree.

Bellew was chosen over Wilder, who has a belt. Now look at him
Glen Johnson wasn't supposed to beat Roy Jones, he was underated. He became fighter of the year.
The Asian brother they put in the ring with James Kirkland....they weren't looking for a real fight, Ishida?

I seriously think Lomachenko people looked down on Salido. He's old,, got a lot of losses, yeah lets debut with him and get a name on our resume.

Loma starts out his pro career 0-1., I think because they underated the potential of Salido to do whatever in the hell he wanted in order to win.

Buster Douglas wasn't even ranked top 10, how in the hell did he get a shot at Tyson? Underated.

Salvador Sanchez' camp thought a little unkown African named Azumah Nelson was a walk in the park. 10 years later they dubbed him the 'professor'

I'll go underated. Lose and its expected. Lose as over rated? Better have no children -cause they will get dogged at school for their overblown ain shyt wanna be fighter of a daddy.

I wouldn’t care, if you cared you’d probably underperform. You don’t worry about things you largely can’t control. I wouldn’t want to underperform.

Underrated! Life is always difficult and people will always sale you cheap. If you're overrated people will place expectations on you and sooner or later people will want you to face an opponent you know you can't beat.

that heavily relies on your country and promoter. you can be overrated and everyone evades you, have to fight for small purses and against lesser names and then have the chance to get "exposed" in the process, before you can land a money fight.
Again, that depends. Underrated, can actually be beneficial if you're from a smaller boxing country. If a known beltholder picks you out of the lineup for instance and maybe underprepares, it might be the road to money and fame, certainly if other beltholders or maybe big names still underrate you and thnk it was a fluke.

In Bellew case it suits him asive always thought he fights better when he’s the underdog, has to be a mental thing obviously.
On the flip side I always had the up,OST respect for Floyd career, always the favourite and always delivered, don’t care who the opponents were cause anyone can have an off night as DeGale can testify too.

You might have just answered this yourself, based on that criteria. I don’t think many people will care about the little moral victory that you have inside. Besides, they’d never believe you, if you told them that you’re better, as they don’t rate you!

Now, is it better to be underrated or overrated going into a fight? Underrated may mean your opponent isn’t prepared. If you’re overrated, your opponent may be well prepared, but mentally weak before a punch is thrown.
