David Haye what years was he truly at his peak?!

He was at his peak when he iced Enzo at CW. IMO he was at his HW peak when he destroyed Chisora - who else has done that to him since? But he was at his true fighting peak as a CW. If there was a 210lb weight division that would have been ideal.

He’s an all time great in my book.

 

His peak win and best career win was at CW over Jean Marc Mormeck.

I think that was the best possible David Haye there has ever been

He then stepped up to the HW after icing Enzo who has always been very Chinny, when facing Monte Barrett.

The following two fights could also be called within the peak.

 

He fell short from achieving his maximum for a few reasons

Undersized at HW

his competition at HW was a Superheavyweight. If it was people like Ruiz etc who were belt holders he would have cleaned up. Instead it was a peak Wladimir Klitschko.

too injury prone - bulked up and did too many explosive exercises with massive weights to retain mass and twitch muscle memory. Counterproductive in a small frame like his. Sub 210 was his ideal weight.

Bad lifestyle choices meants he drained his finances so he came back purely for the money.

His power meant he never had to learn boxing fundamentals. Always had a stalker and strike mentality. Bellew exploited it wonderfully.

Only guy other than Holyfield to win a title at CW and HW though so that gives him a high ranking and deservedly so.

Let’s not forget that’s Adam Booth was PERFECT for Haye. As soon as he left Booth, you pretty much knew deep down he would never be the same.

 

Yes, he was at his peak at cruiserweight and his peak when he fought Chisora which was impressive. His fake win against Valouev was just that, fake, Don King owned him then, split decision, all Haye did was run like hell and threw hardly any punches at all. Jim Watt said before the decision that there was no way Haye could win a decision without thrown any punches! He did the same against Vlad, when he hurt his toe.................

 

Yea what happened with him and Booth anyone know?

 

I always assumed it was about money but both haven’t talked about it and I doubt they ever will.

Clearly it was bitter because Booth always refers to him as “Haye” in interviews and never as “David”. Says it all.

 

His peak was somewhere between going life and death with the great Fragomeni at cruiserweight, and throwing 8 punches a round against the great Valuev.

 

Enzo Macc years, the fight that he walked home to Bermondsey from the O2 from with the belt over his shoulder. Can't get much better than that.

 

Interesting, as Booth seems to be a stand up bloke.

 

Haye was already huffing and puffing heavy during the Chisora fight. I remember him looking rusty in that one. I think he had a 12 month layoff or something close to it.
And then he didn't fight for another 3 years.
