Which retired ATG fighters would you confidently pick to beat Gennady Golovkin at 160, and why?

    Confidently is a big word.

Iron chin and ATG jab might make Hagler and Monzon obvious choices for a lot of folks. I do think those two things are very very nice to have in this match-up. The ability to survive Golovkin and to consistently out-jab him are probably key.

I'd go for Dick Tiger. That guy was ****ing nuts and IMO could not be out-brawled in his prime. That's about as left-field as I'd confidently get with Golovkin though.

Probably a lot of guys i'd make a tentative favourite over him, but the point is you could very easily be wrong.

GGG throws more jabs than anyone in boxing, Monzon and Hagler had great reaches which could help them in the jabbing match but GGG is something else.

    Bernard Hopkins would best him.
Roy Jones would destroy Golovkin. I would not wanna see that fight.
    Hagler
    Monzon
    Sugar Ray

    Possibly beat him?
    Hearns
    LaMotta
    Walker
    Greb
    Zale
    Griffith
    Benvenuti.

    I'm sure I forgot a few

Tiger is the worst fight imaginable for Golovkin imo. Fast, heavy, accurate hands; a sophisticated counter punching arsenal; unmatched physical strength; a granite chin; high work rate; high-end infighting skill. And not a one punch KO artist, hence a prolonged beating being likely due to Golovkin's durability.

I think that GGG sets Toney real problems just by jab jab jabbing and countering the space. Toney's obviously not out-working GGG, I don't think he's knocking him out? So...just cleanly out-countering and out-boxing his jab?

Hagler, Monzon, Hopkins, Toney, Hearns and Nunn and even Kalambay. I think a lot of guys can beat GGG. I think he is a little overrated. He has fought a lot of weak opposition. A good fighter, but still weak opposition.

Surprised more people haven't said Greb, that iron chin and work rate is always going to be a nightmare.

I'll add in Fitz to the convo, only outboxed by Corbett and Philidephia Jack O'Brien when he was past it (until he was stupidly old), awesome power and great winner mentality and toughness.

Ketchell is an interesting one, I think he could match GGG toe to toe, but Golovkin would outbox him.

Most of the names mentioned would have to show great adaptability and adjust their fighting style for this fight, which is why it makes it so interesting and tough to pick an absolute favourite to beat him. Hopkins wouldn't have to change much, but his uninspiring work rate, even as a young middleweight makes me cautious and not sure he can dictate the pace for a full 12 rounds. Jones clearly had the physical tools not to get hit with any of Golovkin's power punches for 12 rounds, but if he loses focus for 2 seconds he might get put on his ass. I think Monzon has the best tools for it and if I had to send in one guy for the job it would be him

I'll put a cat amongst the pigeons and say Ketchel completely frigging destroys him. And I'll provide my firm historical and incontrovertible evidence below.
My evidence: cheeky bit of bias. Massive Ketchel fan, here.

its too early to claim he beats ATGs when his best effort so far is a draw with a light middle elite.

Wait a bit longer, till hes retired, then judge him. that is wisdom.

    Ketchel is tailor-made for Golovkin.

Ketchel was a monster puncher in a much tougher middleweight era...one of the all time p4p punchers
