At least someone understands boxing and looks at the fight from a objective stand point. Everyones making it seem linares was outclassing loma 50% of the time, which just wasn't true. If you have to take 15 shots to land one semi-decent shot, thats not a good trade.

And Linares is a top drawer talent. There are very few boxers out there with his range of punches in their arsenal. He is one of the best combination punchers in the sport and so anyone who knows anything about boxing knew he wasn't going to get run over and was going to be competitive. He'd have given Mikey problems last night too.

Agreed, it was competitive and close but I thought Loma was, for the most part, in control of the fight. I'm no fan of compubox because it's just a couple of anonymous men pressing buttons with no accountability for their actions (unlike judges who we know the name of and are sat by the ring), but even if those figures are right, the fact is the fight didn't go to the scorecards. This renders those numbers almost meaningless. The only number in this fight that matters is the one after nine and before the ref waves his hands....

Looked to me that a lot of the work Linares was doing was being blocked by Lomachenko. By absolutely no means all of it, and he got a lot through that made Loma think about doing things twice, but still caught a lot on the gloves

Who said that Loma won easy?
He was in control for most of the fight but Linares was in it.
And **** compubox and the judges were off that night.

I think this fight ended the possibility of Lomachenko ever joining the class of Floyd or Pacquiao. He won't be able to jump weights as well or last as long. He might approach Oscar or Marquez's legacy.

Linares had his moments but loma was in control. Linares knew his gas was on limited time and did his best to stretch it . Let it slip for 1 second and he was done. That loma pressure wears you down fast and your mental strength wavers and he closes the show

Linares made Loma look vulnerable, the rounds were fairly close but I thought most were slightly edged by Loma. He just landed the cleaner blows whilst Linares's looked more partially blocked and what not, when Loma landed Linares head would pop back.

Either way no shame in having a close fight with someone like Linares, he's a quality operator and I think Lomachenko is not really a 135lber either, for me his optimal weight is 130 so this is him being out of his comfort zone against a bigger fighter and he KO's him.

Great post, CSissyT80 already is calling me a hater because I'm not gargling Loma's testicles like he is.

Spoken by someone who watched the fight from inside Loma's cup.

I had it five rounds to four, an even fight with the knockdown, at the time Loma landed that body shot. I picked Loma to win and had no stake in it either way. These clowns claiming Hi-Tek won every round outside of the knockdown. calling others haters is laughable.

Some might say you were potentially salty about the tooling Loma gave Rigo before he punked out.

Heading into the 6th, I had Lomachenko up 4-1. Obviously, the knockdown in the 6th--stop with the "lucky punch" stuff as it was a perfectly executed straight right on an incoming southpaw--changed the dynamics of the fight to some extent. Loma was not as offensively assertive for a period following the knockdown. Nonetheless I had Loma up 86-84 (or 6-3) entering the 9th Round and believed he was, for the most part, outboxing Linares

Had the knockdown not occurred, Loma may very well have cruised to a 116-112 type of decision. As it was, however, it was certainly an all around, very well fought competitive fight. At times, moreover, the combination of Linares' size, length, and speed troubled the Ukrainian prodigy.

Personally, I would prefer to see Loma drop back down to 130. The size difference in the ring was rather evident last night, and until his body matures into the 135lbs weight class (assuming it ever does), he should campaign at junior lightweight.

All in all, the kid deserves a hell of a lot of credit for jumping up in weight, overcoming adversity, and knocking out in dramatic fashion the consensus #2 lightweight in the world.
