Tyson had a hell of a chin. Wilder wouldn't be able to KO him with one punch, Tyson was always gradually broken down. He took huge shots off of Douglas, Holyfield and Lewis. Lewis caught him flush with bombs and he took it for several rounds, his head was repeatedly spun all the way around, I saw Tyson's chin touch his shoulder from the force off those right hands, yet he stayed upright. Wilder is more about ambushing you with one big shot, then trying to finish you off with his windmills, he isn't the kind to keep constant pressure and grind guys down, especially if they are dangerous punchers. If he can't take you out then he backs off again and fighting like that it would be very hard to stop Tyson. Rudduck punished Tyson in spurts much like Wilder would and that wasn't enough to stop Mike. So no I think it's unlikely Wilder can apply enough sustained pressure for long enough to force a stoppage over someone as durable as Tyson and let's be honest Tyson knocks him the **** out.
Wilder smashes any fighter that he hits clean. The guy is a heavyweight Thomas Hearns. He may not be as skilled as Lewis, but he's taller and I think he has a better right hand. He's also excellect at landing his money punch, and much of that is because he's not as cautious as Lewis. Ugly, or not, you can't argue with results. That being said, I think Wilder smashes the flat footed post prison Tyson to bits. The 88' version of Tyson would be a different matter because of his foot speed and defense. I think Vitali could handle Tyson because he had a good up jab. This works well to control as shorter man. Wilder doesn't seem to have that, and punching down at such a short guy that's coming up and lunging at you with powerful hooks and bodyshots would be a hard task. Wilder's long reach is a great asset, but it's a huge hinderance when fighting a guy that's pushing you back and moving his head so aggressively from so low.
wilder is a media friendly front that has little to do with world boxing, and will never have anything to do with elite boxing. tyson was elite by the time he was 21.
By the time Wilder finishes his looping right hand (which takes 2-3 seconds start to finish) Tyson would have landed a massive hook to the body with a devastating uppercut to the chin that knocks Wilder out. Wilder is just so slow and crude that would give a fast technical puncher like Tyson all the time in the world.
The key to Mike is not getting hit by punches. He would bob and weave and get inside and work the body and get to the head. The Tyson of 1987 beat Wilder like he did Biggs.
I like how everyone keeps dodging the question to make incredibly unfunny and irrelevant jokes about Wilder. Changing the subject is proof of how scary Wilder's power is. They dont want to imagine their favorite fighter being flatlined. Obviously Tyson has the better resume and ring iq but none of that matters if you cant get off the canvas to win (something Tyson never did). And the Ruddock comparison is bad. The mechanics of an uppercut with leverage on the lead leg is totally different from a right hand swung by a taller man with leverage on the back leg. Lennox Lewis would be a better comparison, and we all saw how that turned out.
Tyson had a solid chin. We didn't know this in his prime reign, but even late in his career when he was mentally weaker, he took a slew of bombs from the likes of Lennox Lewis. If Wilder nailed him with a punch he didn't see coming, well, anything can happen in boxing. But I think Tyson would be able to absorb numerous bombs from Wilder without major issues. But as of others have suggested, I think Wilder would have a very difficult time finding the mark on a prime Tyson, and beyond that, I imagine Tyson could withstand Wilder's best shots a helluva lot better than Wilder could withstand Tyson's. I think Tyson is a complete and total nightmare of a style for someone like Wilder to deal with. I'll take this guy in 2 or 3 rounds, tops. This content is protected
