David Haye - the worst British promoter ever?

Isn't Spencer Fearon allegedly a promoter?

 

He did well to sign Joyce - shame Joyce has the personality of a peanut.

Haye is an intelligent man with charisma. If he keeps his ego under control there's lots of things he can do after fighting. But as others have said it's hard to get into promoting at scale due to the cash outlay required.

 

He is maybe finished as a top tier contender but I have not heard the words 'I am retired' yet.

 

I don’t think you need to. The fans and pundits seem to have retired him for himself.

When did Haye ever care about punters or pundits?

 

He is one of the best self-promoters I have seen, how he managed to actually make people believe he was back to his old self for the Bellew rematch, absolute genius. He is trying something with the promotional gig, but he is best off keeping his money or investing elsewhere. Boxing promoting is not a smart way to keep money. If you have the resources whereas you can compete with the big hitters that's another story. If not, take a seat. He is best off sticking to the management game. But hey, its not my call to make.

He's worn the hat of promoter for a large portion of his career, I'd be very surprised if any of his promotions weren't financially successful. Even encompassing the collapse of Setanta, which as far as I remember was due to football related shenanigans.

Others have already stated the obvious, the UK market is monopolised around TV rights.

We'll have to see how it plays out. His comeback was as large a part of his promotional endeavours as the stable of fighters he was guiding.

On a side note, way to kick a man when he's down OP, classy.
