Prob because 2 Euro fighters were involved. If you have a hot ticket like Kelly is now, fighting a guy atop the P4P ranking, naturally it will be huge & may break all past PPV events.
As big as Pavlik is now wouldnt the ppv numbers be higher if the fight was in Las Vegas rather than Cardiff?
1. calzaghe-kessler was not a PPV fight in the states or in the UK. 2. calzaghe-pavlik will also not be a PPV event in the UK. calzaghe is currently contracted to setanta in the UK. it is a subscription service which costs £10 a month to their package of sports channels. no extra cost is charged for major events.
1 - To me, the Ref doesn't really matter 2 - New York. Would get lots of Calzaghe fans coming across (more than Vegas due to cheaper and more frequent flights) but would also see tons of Pavlik fans too. If it were held in Wales/UK, there would be a massive partisan advantage for Joe. New York would be a nice leveller and Calzaghe would love to fight at MSG. Has a fairly large capacity so to me, it's the perfect choice. 3 - The ring size will have no bearing on this fight. Calzaghe's movement is confined to a couple of square metres surrounding Pavlik and if anything, he will thrive in a smaller ring where nobody can go missing. His unrelenting high workrate and ability to consistantly do 12 hard paced rounds suit a smaller ring. Neither Joe or Kelly will do any running in this fight so a large ring can be ruled out.
calzaghe has already quoted he dont expect his fans to fork out on another trip to the states as it is costly so he said he will fight in uk next.then possibly madison square garden after that
