Good post mate agree with a lot of them names that can do something at the weight above. I think a lot of the problem is when they do move up...they go straight for good guys at the new weight. Around the same level there fighting at in the weight below. Would get more success if they took a step back with the opposition...give themselves time to grow into the weight. And make the jump up in weight when their still young enough...not when its almost enforced when they hit the thirties.

Wouldn,t necessarily give them more success in their careers just wouldn't leave them going in a ring weight drained plus free up more time working on other things in training etc as opposed to the weight making being the number one priority in the gym leading up to a fight.

    This.

I can't stand Coldwell as the jumped up little nobody he is but McDonell was simply out of his depth against a top drawer fighter who caught him cold and had the tools to finish the job quickly. There will be plenty of other champs iced by the monster in coming years so it won't impact on Jamie's legacy as much as people might try and make out.

I took the time to actually listen to the podcast and yes it is amateur hour from Penfold. Listen from around 37 minutes in and he talks about Japan:

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p067tfnt

It is pretty shambolic to think that McDonnell's team didn't research the nearest restaurants, supermarkets, butchers etc weeks before flying out to Japan. I'm just an everyday meathead tbh and when I book hotels for holidays one of the first bits of research I do is locate a gym nearby or a hotel with a gym and base my booking on that. For a professional athlete with loads of money on the line to not have his team go to every length to sort out food and drink requirements bearing in mind the crazy weight cut he has to do is not only amateur hour but pretty dangerous for McDonnell you'd imagine.

Also, I'm not buying Penfold's complaints in any event. Japanese people tend to be trim and lean because their diets are pretty ****ing healthy. I refuse to believe they couldn't locate a restaurant to serve them fish and vegetables or lean beef for McDonnell. Or as someone else pointed out, bring some food with you.

The image in my head of that midget rat and his team trawling around the streets like the Inbetweeners abroad with McDonnell dehydrated and weight-drained looking for a McDonalds or Greggs in ****ING JAPAN is killing me. If I was McDonnell or Coldwell I would have brought my own food and water, located a hotel or restaurant weeks before willing to prepare a custom menu for McDonnell and most importantly hired a Japanese translator and guide to be the focal point for information for all such matters in Japan.

But what do you expect from this chancer of a trainer who threw poor Pricey under the bus when he lost to Hammer and blamed it on his nervous energy and claimed he had no involvement in his strength and conditioning?

The amount of excuses churned out for this overrated bum is truly amazing., From the monster being on something because wasn't throwing punches using force from his legs, to losing weight, fluid being drained from his brain, to now Chefs, trainers and Japanese cuisine.

Jamie would still have lost even with a Sunday roast, pork chops and fish and chips in his belly whilst fighting in Doncaster outside his home, in front of his wife and kids.

I can't get over the sudden attacks on Caldwell all of a sudden now today in the wake of Jamie getting mullered in Japan. Yet no one said a word against hpthe toad when he (and Hearn and Jamie too ) was quite happy to grab AND claim credit for the unjust "win" over poor Solis. Then...I was the only one to speak up. Now the man is down...and everyone rushes to put the boot in. I don't understand you lot sometimes!

Athletes, tourists as well as the non Japanese that live there.

I would be quite confident in saying you can probably get any cuisine you want in Japan if you bother to actually research rather than walk down the street hoping to see English speaking restaurants.

McDonnell knew the minute he signed the contract he'd lost. He doesn't beat Inoue in any way on any given day. My guess is that the way everything went was because of this mindset. All this bull**** about food and weight is just that, excuses before a move up in weight, in the hope the loss gets a little discredited. This was about getting the pay check first and maybe, if a miracle happens, a shock win second and McDonnell knew that.

As most have said on here McDonnell would have lost anyway as Inoue is clearly nearly a top 10 p4p if not already.

But I find Penfold laughable as a trainer - don't know why anyone would go with him to be honest. He makes hundreds of excuses when his fighter loses and takes the credit (or tries to) when they win. He seems to lack professionalism, tactics and general boxing knowledge.

My old fella fought there in 1965 and he didn't have any trouble finding food even then. He had to make bantamweight as well.

Another problem of Jamie McDonnell's mindset, is his attitude towards boxing. He claims that he has never watched a Muhammad Ali fight and that he hates boxing.....I mean what the ****
I would be okay if this was any other random person, but McDonnell is a boxer, this is his profession. Every great fighter in history LOVED boxing and always kept up with it, and you can't make the excuse that you don't have access to watch boxing ,when we live in the age of youtube, where you can easily google anything.

It does sound as if the camp (not Jamie) were wanting some jolly outing in the luxurious Dubai before they went to Japan.

Penfold and the millennial sport scientist (I'm a millennial but it's a great word) were talking as if Dubai was literally down the street from Japan. It's nearly 8000Km away!!

Never visited Japan but have visited china and nothing is in English there. NOTHING.

Eating was a challenge, the locals seem to eat instant noodles for fun. and eggs with fully formed chicken embryos in, they loved that sht. True story.

The best fighter he brought through himself was Jerome Wilson. His book "Wiped Out" tells what happened to him and how he was or wasn't looked after. It's well worth a few quid to buy it.
The fighters who go with Coldwell seem to be Hearn fighters. If they live down south they tend to go with Sims.
