It was always a kinda dumb nickname, as hes only really had one egregiously weak opponent since hes become an elite name. Hes about to fight Shawn Porter. Hes fought Keith Thurma Amir Khan Lucas Matthyse Lamont Peterson Brandon Rios Robert Guererro (Before he was completely faded) Pauli Malignaggi Zab Judah Even before he made it, he fought the Likes of Kendall Holt, Nate Campbell and Ashley Theopane. If anything, he has one of the stronger resumes out there!
He's been one of the least rationally hated on and one of the most underrated on this forum in my time here. He never seemed to get credit for the top notch names he was beating. He clean clock KO'd Khan cold within a few rounds. And he went to battle with and took down favorite Matthysse when Matthysse was viewed as one of the most feared fighters in the sport. Lot of very good supporting wins around that, too. I understand the Salka fight was laughable and he should have lost to Herrera clearly. But that is separate from everything else he's done in his career; overwhelmingly relevant results.
garcia is top 3 WW in the world, good resume and i think he beats porter and would beat thurman in a rematch, spence not so sure
Keith Thurman - Lost to him. Legit Amir Khan - Good win. Legit Lucas Matthyse - Draw without the KD. Legit Lamont Peterson - Should be a Loss. Cherry* Brandon Rios - Shot to HELL. Cherry* Robert Guererro - Should have been a draw. Cherry* Pauli Malignaggi - Shot to hell. Cherry* Zab Judah - A Walking corpse, and he struggled with him. Cherry* ROD SALKA - Cherry of ALL CHERRIES. Mauricio Herrera - A LOSS. Cherry* *They were perceived to be Cherries by him and his shitstain of a father, even though some of them proved not to be as shot as they thought they'd be.
Completely unwarranted hate. He has a better record than the beloved Kell Brook . Porter is Brooks best win and i can see Danny beating him more comfortably than Brook did.
Good post. I'm not really a fan of Garcia as I don't think he's great to watch but that's a good resume.
It seems from just gathering opinions of others that a Draw would have been fair for the history books. But yeah. He got busted up in that one so good point.
It was one of those fights where Petersons rounds were very clear and he beat garcia up, but if you scored it over 12 3 minute rounds, as it should be, its a very close fight.
A draw? No way. Peterson won pretty much every round in my opinion. I remember most on here agreeing. I was watching it and thinking that and I was shocked at the decision. Just had a look at Garcia’s record and at Welterweight his wins haven’t been the best. Guerrero was coming off what many felt should have been a loss to Aaron Martinez. Peterson was controversial and the rest were a long way from the top 10. He had a good run at light welterweight but I don’t see how he is under rated. Very good punch resistance, decent power but I think he is a bit flat footed and can be outboxed. If you look at Matthysse and who he’s beat and how he has beat them considering he has never had a full world title or made half the money Garcia has and his fight with Garcia was very close even though he had a shut eye from early in the fight. He is probably under rated. I don’t see how Garcia is.
Garcia is ok but he is not likable boxer. He doesn't have that Charm and he fights like an amateur. Not admirable. Hard to market on PPV. No offense to Garcia fans.
Peterson was consider the next best 140lbs'er at the time. It was a fight between 2 140lbs champions. He beat Matthyse, the KD happened. You cant just wish it away. Frankly, I thought he won that fight without the KD anyway.
