Which popular fighters have let their fans down the most?

Probably Floyd Mayweather. His nuthuggers believed he was clean only to see their hero w/ a needle in his arm on the eve of his showdown w/ Manny Pacquiao. They'd been banging the drums about on how Floyd was cleaning up the sport of boxing. Then they stopped talking about PEDs altogether hoping IV-gate would go away.

 

Some random shouts:

Keith Thurman - it might not be his fault but he simply doesn't fight enough.
Artur Beterbiev - it's not his fault but same problem.
Gervonta Davis - lost his title on the scales
Adonis Stevenson - old but wasted four years (between Fonfara I and Jack) fighting B-level opponents.
Gilberto Ramirez - done nothing for a while. At one point he was the second hottest Mexican commodity.
David Haye - the toe, + why did he come back when shot? Don't think his fans enjoyed that.
Kell Brook - poor career management, going to 160 lb to fight Golovkin and then draining down to 147 lb vs Spence Jr was not smart.

 

Allegations of Mitchell not training properly have passed me by, i never knew there were any. But if thats true then i gotta agree with that one. He built that fight up as much as anybody in a plea to his fans and Hammers fans to fill that stadium and give him the night to cherish for the rest of his life.

Canelo springs to mind but the majority of his fans dont seem to care or even really understand what he has been doing and how bad it is. He has lost some but those that love the sport and care about what happens in it are vastly out numbered by those who have no interest in the sport or their favourite Boxer until about an hour before they are due to fight. Also the sport itself seems to of happily swept it under the carpet, hes eligable to fight in under 2 months. What a punishment.

Im ashamed to admit it but i was a fan of Audley Harrison. I tend to become a fan of Boxers that seem to come across as good people, likeable guys and I couldnt help but like Harrison. I knew he had talent and i knew he had a bad chin but his own fear of getting tagged made him Box well below his abilities and i knew he could do a good job and every time he said he was ready for a come back i believed he had shaken the demons in his head, only to find out he hadnt and was worse than ever which would leave me frustrated at him and annoyed that id allowed myself to fall for it again.

 

Yesterday I've rewatched Mayweather vs Canelo and can't find any excuse for Canelo. That was his worst performance ever, he was fighting with no urgency like he was in a sparing session instead of a mulitmillion dollar fight and having a chance to overthrow the best fighter in the game back then. Floyd absolutely toyed with him and it pissed me off. Not because of the result but because of the lack of effort. That was straight embarrassment right there. Victor Ortiz at least came to trash Floyd up, while Canelo fought the dumbest fight ever. And after the fight just walked away with a load of cash, even becoming Floyd's successor like nothing happened with people saying he was "too green". And in the end the problem here is not Canelo, but the powers behind the scenes that really regulate the sport of boxing and don't give a damn about the quality or the rules. The same people that take care of scorecards, the venues, the negotiations, making sure some fighters get the privilege others don't ever receive.

 

Canelo was severely drained, dude.

I know there were probably all sorts of factors involved, but Riddick Bowe's failure to face Lewis let down a lot of his supporters who believed he was going to take his place at the top of the division.

It also annoyed people like me who wanted Lewis to win, but that's a complete coincidence...

 

Frank Bruno-fought loads of bums until they gave him world title shots and he blew all of them except against another disappointment in the form of Oliver McCall, in his fights vs the other heavy champs he just gave up against fighters who were out of sorts when he fought them, when he disappointed fans most when he just clinched the whole time vs Tyson in their infamous rematch before slumping tamely on the canvas after Tyson hit him with a powerful combo, I remember all the bull before that one and the saw Bruno crossing himself hoping God would save him from this animal, he wasn`t pro about his career at all, he was a hoax.

The UK put tons of faith behind him.

 

For me, personally? Manny Pacquiao. I feel like he sold his career short when he decided to enter into politics. He had an obscene amount of distractions big fight after big fight that clearly hindered his abilities/performance.

 

Ywah when you look at that weight in... I never seen him looking that bad
