Bj Saunders v GGG

That is the biggest problem I feel for BJS. GGG is so good at cutting off the ring and unless you can bang he wont stop coming.

 

I was one of the guys that predicted Lemmy to chin him, but doing so after being outboxed for the most part, like in the N'Dam fight but ending in a KO win.
I was wrong. I saw a much better Billy Joe as I had seen against Monroe, and an infinitely better Billy Joe as I'd seen against that so-so Russian dude. I didn't think Saunders could show a complete level higher when needed.

True, but realistically both guys completely schooled Lemieux, only Golovkin did it dropping and stopping him.
Lemmy, who I believe hits harder clean as Golovkin does, didn't touch Saunders all that much but we know Golovkin will, even when he lost a step. Lemieux always had massive trouble against movers and although current Golovkin has trouble too, it's against a higher level opponent and he still catches up with all of them at multiple points in the fight.

 

It isn't about standing there and getting hit, is it? Last time I checked, that wasn't the idea of boxing. The idea is to avoid being hit while hitting your opponent. It doesn't take a genius to work out that to win easiest is to be defense first. And if you think Billy Joe has a bad chin, then you're wrong.

Also, canelo was on the ropes, because at middleweight he didn't have the movement to avoid GGG. BJS has very good feet and very good movement, that's the difference. I know a lot of people think Canelo is some sort of mobile, slick boxer, but he just isn't. He is a fighter who likes to get up close, pick his shots carefully and counter. BJS can do that also. But he can also move and box too. And he can trade.

And that's the thing. If you think that GGG will be bullying BJS on the ropes, you're in for a huge, huge surprise. BJS is a gypsy. He knows how to fight, and when the going gets tough, he certainly isn't going to back down. This fight goes 12 rounds, no doubt about it. If Brook can have a war with GGG, then BJS certainly can if he absolutely has to. I'm not saying that he wins a trade with GGG, but he will hold his own with him if things get ugly. And BJS can slow GGG down. He has better power than people give him credit for. If Billy Joe throws some good shots early on, GGG will tire in those last 2 or 3 rounds. Of course, GGG isn't going to the floor, but I do believe BJS has the power to tire GGG a bit.

And talking about trades, the Eubank fight comes to mind. Everyone hates on Eubank, but there's one thing you can't take away from him, and it's that he is a monster up close. He might be useless at range, not have a jab. But he is a force to be reckoned with if you let him get up close to you. A tired, unfit BJS beat Eubank Jr, and the majority of that fight, BJS had to trade. If a tired BJS 1.0 can trade with Eubank Jr effectively and hold his own, then a Fit, fast BJS 2.0 can more than hold his own with GGG. People also seem to forget, BJS had Lemieux finished in those mid rounds. He was busted up, beaten up, destroyed. The fighter was battered by the boxer, bleeding.

He beats GGG by close decision in my opinion. GGG is old now, he has lost the movement he used to have, and it's going to cost him. Young, prime GGG beats BJS (And probably the rest of the middleweights in history as well), but not this old, walking stick version.

 

I think bjs is good enough to stay out of trouble and get on his bike for 12 rounds

not saying he'd win the fight but no shame in going 12 with ggg and getting a good pay day

 

I've been torn on this one for some time.

Who wins the battle of the jabs? BJS is probably the better boxer but GGG's jab is immense, constantly ramming into your face setting up everything else.

And then stamina. I'm not convinced BJS has overhauled his stamina problems. Very few fighters ever do. Lemmy was bemused, hurt and embarrassed in the last few rounds so never really pressured. GGG comes at you for every minute of every round. I think to myself, some fighters just have bad stamina, and BJS is one of those guys.

With that in mind I think BJS starts great, maybe sweeps the first 4 rounds. From there on he loses a step, slows ever so slightly under the Golovkin pressure. This brings GGGs jab into things. The next 4 rounds is GGG stalking, jabbing, landing. They're maybe even rounds but the tide is turning. Last 4 rounds BJS loses his legs and takes a pasting.

I remember mate, although I don’t recall you saying anything about BJS outboxing him. You asked at the time where the evidence was for Lemieux not being able to lay a glove on BJS. Not being big headed cos I do get predictions wrong but I rate BJS above and beyond any other British fighter p4p. He really is a great talent and the best 160 in the world imo.

 

I expected him not being able to dominate and getting caught on occasions (again, N'Dam style), so I couldn't find any path to victory for BJS before the fight, being in with a GBP fighter who was supposed to get hold of that belt for Canelo.

Man, was I wrong on that one

People talk about GGGs age but conveniently forget BJS is not getting any younger either is he

 

I get pretty much every fight wrong at the moment ha...but I’d back golovkin to beat BJS and probably by stoppage.

 

He’s 19 days older than ‘young’ Christopher.

Seeing as you were suggesting that BJS ‘wasn’t getting any younger’ I thought i’d give you a relative comparison. Eubank is a rival of his, so why not?

Also, you mildly irritate me so I do enjoy putting you straight when you’re talking tripe.

 

Golovkin has been trying to get a fight with Saunders for years....................don't know if it will ever happen....................
