You're gonna get a lot of varied responses here... At my gym, we avoid any heavy strength training and sparring the final week leading up. We still do bagwork, roadwork and conditioning until maybe 2 days before the fight. Last 2 days are light, i.e. just sharpening up your movement, i.e. footwork, light cardio, skipping, mitts. Obviously you'll still have to work harder if you are cutting a lot of weight in the final days.
We might take 1 day off from training the day before the bout. But we pretty much spar, and train as normal until up to maybe 2 days before the fight.. So maybe 1 light day and 1 day off the two days prior.
IMO weight cutting in ams unless it is a tournament is silly and not worth the risk to both performance and health, now pros is a little different, depending on the individual. But I am sure many will disagree with me on that.
If i fight on Saturday, I do a full 60 minute workout on monday and then taper down 15 min each day to a day of on friday.
If you are weight cutting in the amateur ranks; your trainers and advisers are not giving you proper knowledge of the sport....Fight in the weight you are most comfortable at which gives you true strength and energy the day of the bout....Unless you are a bonafide superstar, guaranteed millions for shedding weight, coming down in weight class for a serious payday and risking your boxing reputation. Its not worth it!
I remember being at a two-day tournament, the tiny gym that was attached to the hotel was filled with people using all the cardio equipment. You do not want the difficulty of having to weigh-in each day in the amateurs and struggle to make weight.
