    In both respective conditions.

Edit: As in (if you think it would matter), both a 45 rounder in Havana in 1915 conditions, and a modern 12 rounder under the conditions of Lennox Vs Vitali

Well Id say Lewis on account of him having More left at that point ..but then I think well it took 26 rounds for a younger ,bigger man to stop Jack. So if Johnson could hang in and play a long game ,then we could be looking at a Johnson victory.

Lennox was a mess though. Do you think the Lennox of that fight could have gone past 20 rounds?

Age certainly caught up with Johnson, but he was still pretty fast, and I think would have kept his title against a lot of other boxers.

After a long night of jellied eels and distant thoughts, Lewis takes him by SD.

Lennox's 2nd toughest bout behind holyman.

Jack Welch the referee stated that if the fight had been a 20 rounder, Johnson would have received his nod.

I guess I wasn't clear. I meant how would it play out if they fought both at Havana over 45 rounds, and if they fought a 12 rounder under modern conditions. I'll edit the opie.

Lewis did have some issues vs slick fighters, like Ocasio, though he won easily. He would not face Byrd, who was good on very defense, or Ruiz who had a reasonable defense augmented by his clinch like tactics. So you can make a cause for Johnson to hang around for a while.

But Johnson was better as an infighter. Lewis blows him away from a distance or up close.

Johnson defense on film was partly based on clinching, hitting and holding and being the taller man. That game would evaporate as soon as the first bell sounded. Lennox would tee off on a shorter man with a low gloved guard.

This is a mismatch. Lewis could end it early, and once he figures out that Johnson did not hit hard, I think would.

I don’t get this “he was fast” opinion of yours...

For one, he had a huge tire around his midsection. He was in awful shape You could see him gassing badly on the film despite not even putting up a high workrate. His handspeed was still ok, but against a very slow ponderous Willard. Johnson wouldn’t have looked so fast in there had his opponent been Langford Mcvea Jeanette or wills instead

Lewis wasn't as soft, but still pretty soft, he started slow and gassed quickly. I was mostly meaning handspeed for fast, and Vitali and Lennox look pretty cumbersome too in their fight, if anything I'd say Willard has better handspeed, but it's hard to say from the old footage.
