Joe doesnt doesnt come close to having the same punching power as Johnson or Tarver. Trinidad even hit him harder than Joe will ever.
Glen Johnson isn't that hard of a puncher, and Joe does have over 30 KO's on his record. Take all that into account and the fact Roy Jones is shot to peices, then you could have yourself a KO.
Shot to peices? past his prime, yes... lost a step, yes... Shot to peices is a little harsh.. That said, anything can happen. A late TKO stoppage, MAYBE...But most likley this one goes to the judges... :good
Then I'll say "I told you so"......even now Roys abilities are worlds above Joe who, lets face does about everything wrong and still wins...that all ends when he gets checked with the quickness and timing of a true master
I don't think RJJ would be on the P4P list for beating Joe C. nor would it enhance his legacy. Joe C. is a media creation. RJJ legacy is already established.
I disagree with some points. Roy's biggest problem is that he has lost his legs and stamina. He can't rely on his reflexes anymore, and he can't fight anything close to 12 rounds. His last sustained attack was against Ruiz in 2003. A long time ago. The pressure tactics thing is a myth that cropped up post-Johnson. Roy did face pressure at points in his career, but all of those guys got knocked out. Everyone said they were going to pressure, but during the fight they realized they couldn't match his speed, and most opted to back off and lose a wide (but safe) decision. Bernard Hopkins did pressure Jones with his feet but was reluctant to throw punches. Bryant Brannon insisted on pressuring Jones and got laid out early. Merqui Sosa tried the same and also got stopped early. Vinny Paz tried it, too, and he became the victim of a spectacular KO. Even the aging Jones was able to easily handle Clinton Woods' pressure in 2002. In their primes, Calzaghe would be a good opponent for Jones. He fights iike Jones to an extent but isn't as gifted, and had he insisted on coming forward, Roy would have had the opportunity to truly shine. Now, Roy probably will get stopped via accumulation, or else lose a sad and non-competitive decision.
Yes because we know Calzaghe is still in his prime, has great reflexes, and fast hands. Give me a break. This fight is two washed up fighters fighting for nothing, but huge dollars. Joe C. is faded and so is Roy. The only question is if a faded Roy is better than a faded Joe C. Looking at the Hopkins - Joe C. fight and how he was outclassed, I would say Joe would be in for a long fight.
Let's not get too overexaggerated, here. I'm no Calzaghe hugger by any stretch, but the guy just took out Kessler, who was considered a young top SMW, 8 MONTHS ago. You don't use the term FADED for a guy until he's had a few poor outings against questionable comptetion -- not Hopkins, who is a traditional spoiler and is still listed on the Ring's P4P list. So many of you guys overhype the "FADED/SHOT" train, it's ridiculous.
Calzaghe is declined but still fights at the elite level and clearly beat an undefeated opponent in his career-defining fight at 168 last fall. Jones is shot to pieces and has been for more than four years and has not achieved a quality win since 2003. To say that Calzaghe and Jones are equally declined reveals either stunning ignorance or an agenda.
