Joseph Joyce vs. Ivica Bačurin, 10 rounds @ heavyweight

 

Round 1

Joyce setting Bačurin into retreat with jabs & rights up top. Bačurin skipping away, waiting until he is attacking from a side angle to peck at Joyce's high guard with a quick jab dashing in, then scrambling outside again. Joyce is casually lawn-sprinkling jabs at the head, content to let Bačurin slip and block some as he's essentially just range finding & warming up. A few half-arsed upper hooks lobbed at the body of Bačurin from Joyce but no real step-through or firm commitment. Bačurin timidly jabs the forearms darting in and then cuts back and forth between adjacent sets of ropes, with Joyce effectively trapping him in a small triangular area. Triple jab by Joyce, breaking through Bačurin's guard. Right on the body, grazing from Joyce as Bačurin trots laterally. Right hand, left hook combo from Bačurin diving in and buying himself cover to keep on circling out wide. Long clubbing outfielder-to-shortstop right hand from Joyce, and Bačurin is hurt & running. Straight right now from Joyce, partly blocked, still exacerbating. Bačurin is caught with his back against the ropes so he ducks straight down. Cuffing left-right-left hooking combo by Joyce, all brushing the nape of the neck. Bačurin down, complaining of rabbit punches as the unsympathetic ref counts him out (and then not protesting all that much)

Joyce is an absolute beast. All pressure fighter, let Bacurin not even take a breathe for one second. This was more a QUIT then a real KNOCKOUT but i can understand that Bacurin quit at the end of the first round, it was simply a beatdown.

 

I know right if he had a A rated chinn and abit younger he be super dangerous to anyone in the division.

 

It honestly was technically (in fairness to Bačurin) a rabbit punch combo that ended it, but the outcome was pretty much academic. Bačurin was getting KTFO no matter what.

 

I reckon this show probably had the lowest numbers of a free to view boxing show ever in the Uk

 

This was the main event..? Haye must be already planning a comeback.

 

I mean, there were zero names on the undercard - and Joyce doesn't quite seem to be yet enough of a name himself to carry a card.

Bacurin looks like a LHW.
I'm liking Joyce so far, but this fight told us NOTHING.

Also, if that wasn't a dive, then they don't actually exist in boxing.

As far as the rabbit punches, Bacurin illegally ducked below Joyce's wasteline, so Joyce was not at fault. Granted, Bacurin also can't be blamed due to the height difference, but Joyce is clearly not a dirty fighter.

 

Tbf it was originally supposed to be Joyce vs. Richard Lartey; Bačurin was a late sub. But yeah, no more of this caliber if he wants to build up a profile (and justify being in main events, on even small-fry tertiary-market shows)

 

Joe Joyce looked like he didn't give a single **** after that win lol.
