His defense allowed him to move up and fight and beat some fighters IMO he could not overpower but could outbox them .....however when it comes to PBF and the others like Locche, Pep, and any other fighter known for their great defense is PBF had every advantage except size in some cases in that he was the money fighter a good part of his career and could therefore pick and choose his opponent from a line of offers every time.....he had sources to study any fighter he wanted through money and influence or youtube/social media.....compare this with Pep or any of the great fighters of the past who tried to avoid top prime fighters but many times had no choice and not only fought the best top guys but multiple times Pep/Sadler 4x...many times the great defensive fighters of the past got in the ring without knowing anything about the others guy......Floyd had the option to study endless hours of opponents and find their weaknesses and then train and choreograph a game plan and bring in sparring partners with the same style.......this is not saying that you could do this without talent but I am saying that we can't judge his defensive wizardry in the same light as past greats by stats because a fraction of the story is told I would give PBF the nod as the greatest businessman this sport ever saw to include the promoters second to none followed by SRL and a great fighter with great talent.
you could go with Wilfred Benitez over Floyd. Hearns and Duran had a hard time hitting him. And Ray said he was one of his toughest fights. Floyd never fought that level.
He’s in the conversation...people **** on his resume but when you look at it on paper it’s super impressive Floyd beat the following men who are or will someday be hall of famers Manny Pacquiao Juan Manuel Marquez Canelo Alvarez Oscar De La Hoya Shane Mosley Miguel Cotto Diego Corrales Jose Luis Castillo Ricky Hatton Arturo Gatti
I agree with this, same thing with prime R.Leonard, Leonard could've been absolutely brilliant defensively if he had choosen to fight a safety 1st fight style. But Leonard was aggressive, and when a fighter is being aggressive their will be openings that can be exploited. It's easy to look evasive if your strictly waiting on your opponents actions and, doing only enough to win but not taking the risk to dominate. Caliber of competition also plays into this also.
Nope, golovkin is allowed to call out guys 2 weight classes below him, retired fighters, inactive bums, etc. But god forbid u dare suggest he go up even 1 division! Or fight a mandatory with a pulse...
Not sure any boxer with Marquez's talent and technical skills has ever been dominated the way Mayweather dominated Marquez. Outthought him and outfought him to the point that Marquez couldn't land a glove on him. Grew painful to watch. Can't remember the last time a fighter of Canelo's caliber was so utterly unable to land blows on an opponent either.
I've always respected and admired Camacho. I frankly could not believe what I saw when he was destroying and outclassing guys like Loy, Limon and Ramirez....then, though I was disappointed in his reaction to getting hit by Rosario, I still remained a fan, thinking that he might repel his personal demons and regain his old form....finally, when he took his whipping from Chavez like a man...without a whimper....I had the same high regard for him that I had for my man Willie Pastrano, who took a career's worth of punishment from Jose Torres...almost making up for all the punishment that WP avoided throughout his career.
There is an asterick with all of them. Old, small , too young with catchweight, old old , worn out. not really great, limited, limited limited. Sounds like excuses, but none of those guys were a young prime fighter. None. That is significant
