Many have tried there hands at boxing like Monson, Jens Pulver and Vitor Belfort. But they never make the switch. MMA is a varied sport. Boxing is not. There 2 entirely diffrent sports. There isnt ANY fighter in ALL of MMA that could make a succesful and meaningful switch to boxing. The striking techniques in MMA are not refined enough to allow even the heaviest hitters to be succesful.
Negative his point was about ECONOMICS. The facts remain in all the sports he has mentioned the top earners are in those respective sports and there is far more money in them than MMA. The UFC currently is the big leagues with its aquistion of the WFA and PRIDE. But there pay structure is inherently weak and far worse than the way Don King has treated some of his best fighters. Its quite safe to say theres not 1 MMA fighter in the UFC who is on a million dollar salary and that includes Chuck Liddell.
Why would you call them bums. You evidently don't know anything about boxing or donot have the analytical skills to look at mma to understand it.
His point was pretty stupid. He might as well have said, "If MMA fighters were good enough they'd be on the PGA Tour." And conversely..... that means that PGA golfers have the athletic skill set to compete in MMA and they only reason they don't is because golf pays more......atsch Look at it this way.....there aren't too many Bo Jacksons in the world....Not many professional athletes have a choice between playing in the NBA or MLB or NFL (very different skill sets)....Michael Jordan was an amazing basketball player one of the most athletic b-ballers of all time.....He wasn't great at baseball and isn't a great golfer either..... MMA and Boxing are about as closely related as baseball and basketball.....just because you're dominant at one doesn't mean you'll dominate in the other
Most of the UFC guys have Glass Jaws and that is why they are in UFC and not Boxing. I have seen guys get KOed by jabs. Pathetic.
Vitor Belfort Only fought one pro boxing match in 2006 won by KO. he didnt' like it as much Which is understandable being from Brazil.
The guy he fought was a tomato can of the highest order. Vitors striking has always been good but his never going to make any switch to boxing in a month of sundays. His a martial artist first.
I cannot find any information that Sylva ever boxed in a sanctioned boxing match. he was the Brazilian kick-boxing champion not world champion . there are a lot of kickboxers that have done both and done very well in boxing. was it Povetkin or boystov a kick-boxer we know that vitali was and i believe that Vlad tried it as well. it really is a cultural thing european kickboxers are more likely to box Brazilians are not Some asian guy that is a lighter weight champion was a kick boxer as well. to some of you boxing fans A technically sound kick boxer or boxer has to change his technique to be affective in MMA. I really believe that Arlovskie should have been a boxer. 6'4" 230 quick agile would have been a devestatying boxer
Actually, you make a good point about Arlovskie. That is one guy that I would say its a real shame he didn't become a boxer.
Boxing is alot harder and takes far more skill and work but the rewards are far greater. Most of the UFC guys get paid in the dark. And have you noticed, most are caucasian where Boxing has so few quality caucasians. I don't intend to sound racist but when you have good white fighters to match up against African-Americans and Hispanic boxers, like the old days, the popularity of the sport would increase greatly.
There are a lot of hispanic fighters some of those Hispanic fighters are black. The main reason is the cost factor it is much more expensive to learn mma vs boxing. karate schools cost money. You have to go to college to be a good wrestler. A lot of inner city schools donot have wrestling as well as a lot of rural high schools donot have wrestling. most of the participants of mma lived in better off neighborhoods i believe that BJ Penn came from a fairly wealthy family. The Eastern europeans are mostly white they seem to be of good quality for boxers
