Step back in Time.........Lennox Lewis versus Dr Vitali Klitschko

Anyone's guess. Lewis was exhausted, and Vitali was tired too and hurt from a short right hand from Lewis late in round 6.

Lewis, he won the fight fairly.

Lewis was inactive for a year, 37, and undertrained. Even Vitali said afterwards that Lewis was not in good shape.

Yet Lewis still won.

The only question regarding a prime Lewis is how he wins.

1. I actually think that Lewis's stamina would've given out on him at some point in the next two rounds and at that point Vitali would've taken advantage of it and knocked Lewis out. That's debatable though.

2. Lewis.

3. Prime for prime I think Lewis was the better fighter. At that point neither was at their very best as Lewis was on the downside and Vitali actually got better after that fight. Still, Lewis to me is a far better fighter skill-wise and he's more talented and fluid than Vitali ever was.

 

Lewis took Vitali too lightly, but I still feel he would have won the second half of the fight and won by UD. As for standing the test of time, I think Lewis in a top ten all time heavyweight.

 

Prime Lewis would knock Vitali out, that would be my prediction, however in this fight had it continued I think Vitali would be the victor, Lewis gave a lot in the 6th round and was practically done.

 

It was a great fan friendly fight that ended in controversy, the fight itself could of gone either way if it wasnt stopped. I feel Vitali would of won the fight in the end, I see him knocking out Lewis around the 9th or 10th round.

I think what makes this fight even more interesting is, shortly after the fight Lewis retired, and turned down a huge payday to fight Vitali again, in what we would be a Heavyweight fight for the ages, and probably even better than the first one IMO.

 

What can be said that hasn't already been said?

I honestly can't tell you how I think it would've ended. They were both due for a second wind at that point.

I tend to think Lewis would have been able to come on more towards the end, as he has a lot more experience going the distance. But Vitali looked the fresher of the two when it ended.

You know what, though? It was one of the ten best HW fights you'll ever see, so we can leave it at that. One of the only fights that my friends (who arent big into boxing) were screaming at the TV for.

 

Vitali would have run out of blood.

Firstly I must say that Lennox did what no other champion has done. He took on his #1 contender at short notice to save the card aftyer his original warm up opponent Kirk Johnson withdrew. He was barely 80% fit and had trained for a warm up not a title defence
Now to the questions....
1 . Had Vitali been allowed to continue he could possibly have lost his eye. So severe were the cuts.No way could he have won.
2 . In my opinion a 100% Vitali put up a good fight against a 80% Lewis. If not for the cuts
Lennox could have been in trouble
3 . With both fighters in 100% condition Lennox wins by KO in 8

 

Personally I love this fight and thought the stoppage was fair, but I could never can understand when people say well Lennox only had two weeks to prepare for Vitali, but the door swings both ways because Vitali only had two weeks to prepare for Lennox.
