So you're just trying to be an ******* and mess up the poll results because you don't like the poll? Got it. Nice contribution.

I've gone for 'None of the above'.

As I intimated on the original thread of the same subject, the question sets up a series of scenarios, which I think underpin an interesting angle on the Old Timer vs. Modern Boxer debate, to which I suspect none of us are strangers. However, these quite often tend towards pitting old ATG vs. more recent ATG.

In this case, Tubbs' record is probably not viewed as a stellar one and he is not deemed an ATG Heavyweight. Indeed, Tubbs is perhaps not held in even the same esteem as his '80's peers. Yet, on his best day, Tubbs showed a mixture of skill, speed and reflexes worthy of remark for a big man (6'3" - 230lbs). Conversely, all of those Boxers named in the Poll, appear indelibly penned into the Top 100 ATG Heavyweights listing.

I do not necessarily agree with the 'continuous evolution of Boxing' theory and I am aware that most respectable ATG listings are based on a Boxer's actual achievement in his time; not a subjective view on what they might have done. But, if nothing else, the above head-to-head scenarios pitch a pause for thought, in what will no doubt raise the age old contrariety between boxing’s old and new, as well as show what a difference a name makes.

I considered Conn as the only one with a real shot at this. But, ultimately, I just couldn't envisage it with enough conviction to place that vote.

Conn can just move and score. He doesn't have to stop Tubbs. It could be like trying to swat a fly. It's possible Conn could out point him.

I don't consider this an unreasonable position to take. Conn was very gifted and savvy enough to drive out those types of wins. He was very tough, as well.

All I would say here is that Tubbs, at his best, was not immobile himself and had very fast hands. Could he consistently catch Conn coming in, with a superior reach and that sort of hand speed? I think he might.

What advantages do Conn and Loughran have against a peak Tubbs, head to head? They seem stylistically somewhat similar but Tubbs is bigger, stronger, has a longer reach, has faster hands, is just as skilled, and has better power.

Conn seemed to be faster to me.

Well Loughran is a philly boy so that should help him take this fight. In seriousness I don’t even remember how I voted? But I do think Loughran was skilled enough and a good enough defensive fighter that this would be a “very boring” fight except to purists that love a tactical affair, and I could see it going either way

Not too many heavyweights are going to be able to hang with Tony Tubbs. Skillset too strong. Conn would find that out real quick.
