Whilst last night was a superb fight and one in which i did have taylor winning, for me taylor never seemed to work postol out, which pre fight knew that postol brings a tricky puzzle to solve but like i say, for me taylor never worked it out, i thought at times he looked a little lost.
I dont want to sound harsh because that fight was a great fight and for taylor to be beating postol in his 13th fight is a great achievement.

Not been on much recently, just quick glances due to being busy at work/home. Anyway, great fight last night. I hadn't made a prediction on here but I picked Taylor to win by late stoppage but as early as first or second round I questioned whether Taylor would win. I've slugged through Twitter, glanced here & other forums, listened to post fight videos on Youtube and nobody has mentioned that Taylor, a so called large 140 was dwarfed by Postol last night physically.

I noticed at the weigh in when they were side on for the camera's that Postol looked huge, and on seeing them in the ring that was right enough. I don't know if fight night weights were mentioned last night as I watched after work with it on mute.

Anyway, first rounds were close & competitive. I thought Taylor done better at range than he was given credit for other than loading up on the left hand too much, missing & leaving himself out of position. Taylor worked the straight left to the body, and his jab when doubled & tripled stepping away from Postol's right hand was working but he get's frustrated and makes mistakes. I didn't score the fight BTW.

Postol hurt Taylor in round Seven which Taylor has mentioned himself. And at round 8 I think, I had just about given up on Taylor winning as I thought his spirit was broken a bit & he was beating himself now as he was loading on everything & telegraphing. Fair play though, the left hand in round Ten mixed with raised intensity won him the fight.

Postol boxed really well. Jab and his feet controlled distance & pace of the fight. He used his grappling/physique to nullify Taylor as much as possible inside & showed he still had something left.

For Taylor. One thing nobody has mentioned, if the fight was indeed level after 8 (indulge me) and Taylor was only one hurt until this point, and Postol was bigger, had more experience, rounds, ex World Champ and Boxing really well then how the hell did this 12-0 fighter pull through those Championship rounds, score a knockdown & raise the pace enough to win? Class? Bottle? Will? All the above can be checked off.

Great fight, well done fellas. I enjoyed it immensely.

    What's next then?

And as much as I didn't score, the cards were a joke, way, way to wide.

I take it all these posters complaining about the scoring are gonna be right down their local amateur boxing association tomorrow morning to volunteer so that the sport can benefit from their 'expertise'

Two of the cards were too wide in my opinion but you can't possibly comment unless you were literally sitting in the same chair as the person who filled in the card. Fights look different depending on what you can see (which side of the ring you are at) and how elevated you are. Until they employ a panel of judges who are watching the same coverage as the TV audience all of these opinions of folk who judge off TV coverage vs. someone else who was ringside but only had one perspective of what was going on are irrelevant. The boxing authorities will never pay any attention so no point in griping about it.

You bring up some good points but the truth is, the cards ate always wide in favpur of the home fighter.

That could easily be down to the fact that usually every time the home fighters throw a punch the crowd goes bananas! Maybe its time that all judges have to sit with earplugs in that would cancel out the fan noise?

Well Taylor's team with Barry an ex world champ and his trainer were ringside, they pointed that the scorecards are way out. They had by about 2-3 points max.

Pretty much anything we say doesn't change anything, but this is a forum for boxing fans to debate.

I am a big Josh Taylor fan but gotta say those scorecards were a disgrace and ruined what was a great night for boxing and a great win for Taylor. I think ppl never gave postol the respect he deserves and he showed he is a top fighter at 140. For Taylor to beat him in his 13th fight is quite an achievement and hopefully he can iron out his mistakes and clean up the 140 division. Once Taylor beats Ramirez (not easy I know) hopefully a super fight with prograis can be made or if lomachenko decides to jump up in weight again we could see Taylor fight him.

Something i have thought for sometime David. The other thing and this isnt a **** take, maybe you will know, do judges regularly as in even yearly need to get their eye sight tested ?

I do think Taylor deserves big props for taking the fight, both guys do. I always thought it was a true 50/50 type fight as it proved in most observers eyes. Taylor never got fully agrips with Postol, i think that was because he is of the same type of level, nothing else. I do think Taylor was losing quite widely at halfway point but deserves immemse credit for the adjustments he did make as they allowed him to nick a few close rounds in the second half of the fight.

It was closer than I expected it to be and Postol was really good a bit better than I expected him to be. His age, the inactivity, his last performance all made me think he was on the decline and I thought Taylor would win pretty comfortably in the end. But this was better, if it was an easy night's work, it might've been seen as Taylor beat an old and past his best Viktor Postol. So it was better that he had to come through a hard fight, come from behind and step up the gears to get the win. He ticked so many boxes last night and it'll only make him better. He impressed in a different way last night, it was the first time as a pro he was really up against it and had to dig deep. Great win, that shouldn't be tainted by the score cards. At least the right man still won. Although the scores were a disgrace.

Very much in agreement with this. Postol looked garbage in the fight previous to this, but I guess that's why you have comeback fights. He showed he's still a top operator in the division and was classy in defeat.

My card was 115-112 Taylor. He struggled with range early on which is more a credit to Postol than anything else. The way he keeps that lead hand at long range can really upset rhythm. Really impressed that Taylor could keep that intensity up for 12 rounds too.

I guess he'll go for Ramirez next who is very beatable.

I'm not 100 percent sure on the ins and outs of what the judges have to go through ie medicals/eye tests but if all of the boxers must undergo these things then maybe it should be something that the judges/referees have to do? Or maybe once they get to a certain age? Not sure how they could go about it especially with World/Euro/Commonwealth titles etc but it could maybe make a difference

I thought he won but had it a closer fight than the judges.

Be intetesting to find out their procedures because as there is more and more outrageous scorecards. Obviously scoring fights is alwsys subjective but how anyone could say for example Postol only won 1-2 rounds in the whole fight i will never know. Either way something needs done to improve the quality of judging.
