He just can't speak English very well which makes him look goofy. E.g. first question is clearly mistranslation of the question on his part. As for the 2nd, he probably just doesn't follow the world cup and ended up saying something which sounds very stupid to anyone who does. **** happens, everyone says some dumb **** from time to time, doesn't mean you're stupid because of one stupid thing you did. It could have been a joke though but because he's a foreigner he lacks the delivery to make it seem joke-like and came across serious. I honestly think the whole good boy **** is just an act, he's probably a much more serious and collected guy than he appears.

English is his 4th language. It's not his 1st, 2nd, or 3rd. It's absolutely mind-bobblin' that people should expect someone, and a professional boxer at that, to sound as intelligent when speaking in their 4th language as they do when speaking in their 1st.
I mean, to be a boxer you tend to have to not be all that bright to begin with. Getting punched in the head for a living isn't a smart way to make a living. ..but who cares... he's a great fighter.

In the few interviews of his I’ve seen in russian, he comes across as a well manered and humble guy. “Nice guy” stuff is not all an act but clearly thats what he likes to ( or has been told to ) emphasize on for american/mexican people. Might not mean much, but since you seem to be looking in to his behaviour deeper than others on here - in one of his interviews in Kazahstan (i believe it was a sort of an exhibition), one of the reporters called him “Gena”, short for Genady like Nick for Nicholas. He politely and sort of shy-ish but firmly told the guy “I’m Gena to my mom, for everyone else my name is Genady, and dont let this divide us, but you ought to follow simple etiquet/rulles of behaviour”. In other interviews that same polite “I’m your best friend but dont **** with me” attitude is present too. He doesnt have that “wet cardboard box” personality when he is able to express himself properly.

El C, you must be a real asset to your employer and also a credit to your education system, in the year 2018 you have to ask if somebody is "slow" because they are trying to converse in a second, maybe even a third language.
