Saad Muhammad, very easy to hit, I feel Ray could out pointed him. Michael Moore was a WBO champ at LH and he nowhere near Maxim`s level at that weight, plus his chin was really weak, I feel it would be a case of who lands their best shot first, Ward would have stopped Moorer easily and he is a naturally smaller man although much thicker set starting at SMW. I feel Ray would have given R.Jones problems because he was naturally small too, I know Roy was a natural middle but Ray would have toyed with Jones at middle and Roy was better at middle than he was at LH, Roy wouyld have give Ray a lot more problems at LH but that chin would give out sooner or later.
Ray would have destroyed Dennis Andries the same way Tommy Hearns did, I feel Ray could have beaten Hearns after he beat Hill and would have stood a chance in `87 because of Tommy`s chin and the fact that he was way slower at LH, Barkley would lose to Ray at LH, he just wasn`t that good, look what a great lightweight did to him at middle and Ray was naturally bigger than Duran and punched harder if Duran could deck Barkley then Ray could of also.
Andre ward would b a good matchup for srr, his not a huge lhw n not a killer punched. Could outbox ward on points. Although ward is very strong n could smother n spoil the smaller SSR.
No, it's far easier and a lot less taxing to go forward in a boxing match than side to side or backwards. Also, if I remember right Maxim was always a light heavy, and if he is leaning and being physical on the smaller fighter( Robinson's best fighting weight was at welter, and he didnt have the frame, or body structure to carry much more weight and be successful) he will eventually wear the smaller fighter down. If that was Maxim and his corners strategy. It was a smart move. So yes the heat was the same for both fighters but in that particular situation, the naturally larger man would have the advantage. And , their must be something to it, esp when considering Robinson wasn't knocked out in any other fight. And he had over 200 pro fights.
Cause Maxim wasn't doing much of anything. He couldn't find Robinson. Joey wasn't able to get off, he wasn't scoring much at all. So he wasn't expending any energy compared to the guy (Robinson) who was boxing his ears off. Hell the referee was moving more than Maxim and he had to give it up. Not disputing the official result. Joey didn't even land that much when Sugar was having a heat stroke at the end. He was probably scared. Freak luck is what it took for Maxim to win that night. The hottest night in the history of New York City on that date.
Not disputing that fact Not trying to take anything away from Maxim. And as I said if that was his and his corners intentions it was a smart move. I was only pointing out what the size differences, activity rate, the heat, and the fact that prior to and after that fight Robinson was never stopped. All those unusual factors lead to that loss. But if Maxim and his team realized it,and where smart enough to take advantage of it, Kudos to them. But if the fight was held in an air conditioned arena Whould Maxim had won? Not according to the score cards at the time of the stoppage.
