Stiverne is as much as a 'real champion' as Martin. Both won vacant titles, and neither managed to defend their title just once. Joshua/Wilder pretty much won their first title the same way....... The difference between the two is what happened after though. Joshua has fought top 10 fight after fight, Wilder hasn't.
All the facts point to Wlad being long in decline prior to his bout with Joshua. That said Wlad did put in a surprisingly solid performance vs AJ. Therefore Joshua does deserve some credit for getting the W but not as much credit as he would have got for beating a prime Wlad.
