Hearn is a total flop. The DAZN WBSS Deal massively outshined his

Of course he most likely would.

The difference is that I doubt he would be shooting his mouth off, proclaiming how he is going to take over America and denigrate American promoters by more or less stating that they don't know how to do their jobs and he's there to show them how to do it.

That's arrogance. And it's backfired on Hearn big time and he'd be lucky not to recieve the Tupac treatment if he keeps running his mouth like's done.

    Arrogance?

He stated that Wilder's team have done a terrible job promoting him.
He also stated that he's the worst paid WBC US HW champ in history.

Sounds more like the truth to me.

this is the best part of this thread, this Davo literally doesn't have a clue what is going on. the way he's trying to turn what he said around on to you and being completely confused by what you're saying is brilliant :risas3::risas3:

I think some people are getting seriously confused here.

If DAZN have paid Hearn $1 billion, and Hearn doesn't deliver, it is DAZN who has flopped.

    Hearn loses nothing.

I think it is fair to say Eddie Hearn has not fulfilled the very ambitious plan he laid out in the media. Whether this deal comes good in time nobody knows, but we must admit it is going to be extremely difficult for Hearn to make an impact against the incumbents. When you consider the already saturated market and DAZN's lack of disruptive technology or novel business model, gaining traction with an entirely new platform in a new territory will take many years if it happens at all.

Aquisitions like the WBSS are great for hardcore fans, but there is a reason it garnered no interest from US broadcasters to this point. It contains no big draw US fighters and is not particularly relevant to the wider US sports market. It is highly unlikely to lead to a high level of DAZN subscriptions.

People seem to be ignoring that Top Rank already has a similar platform in ESPN+. It comes at half the price and includes great content like the UFC, the major US sports and other original ESPN content. Top Rank also has an excellent roster of top fighters like Crawford and huge global stars like Pacquiao and increasingly Lomachenko. Top Rank having a cheaper and established platform along with a better roster seems to be remarkably ignored by this thread.

PBC seem to have an exclusive deal with Showtime who have made enormous amounts from boxing in recent years and seem deeply invested in the sport. They have an excellent roster including many of the top boxing stars in the US. They are apparently very well funded and seem to have an established revenue stream allowing them to pay their fighters considerably more than Matchroom. Matchroom offer a smaller platform and it would seem less money than PBC. This is again being totally overlooked by most posters in this thread.

HBO is not as invested as it was in the past, but they still have the current PPV king in Canelo and other huge stars on their roster like GGG. They seem to be working well with Golden boy and a few other established US promoters and their overall roster of fighters is still excellent.

HBO and Showtime both have established streaming services and their non-sports business is hugely profitable. They offer a far wider appeal to audiences than DAZN. People in this thread seem quick to favorably compare a highly niche and yet to be launched online sports streaming service with far superior broadcasters with far superior boxing products. That is clearly not a logic based decision.

There is then the fact that the biggest streaming services like Amazon and Netflix are interested in the sports space and have the funding and platform to make a disruptive impact on the space at any moment.

Obviously there are other players in the US boxing market at a similar or more advanced level than Matchroom also. I can see no reason to believe Eddie Hearn will have any significant success given the current landscape.

The one factor Matchroom has in their favor is Anthony Joshua but that is not as big a factor as many seem to think. Basing your entire venture on the success of one fighter is never a good idea, but doing so with a non established fighter greatly magnifies the risk. We have already seen Matchroom over protecting Joshua and side stepping dangerous fights. When you consider that Joshua is not an established presence in the US market, being seen to avoid the biggest challenges will hurt his brand before it even gets going. The likes of Pacquiao and Mayweather were able to survive perceived "ducking" because they were both already huge names and PPV stars in the US. They also existed in stacked divisions where they instead fought other top rated future hall of fame fighters. Matchroom and Joshua do not have that luxury.

In summary, there appears to be a great deal of cheer-leading and pro-UK hysteria in this thread and very little logic being applied.

Matchroom has been paid $1 billion to risk none of their assets.

Matchroom are laughing all the way to the bank.

DAZN and him but DAZN will just hire someone else and will try for the second time. As for Hearn who will watch his fighters in US if he flops? And one more thing MATCHROOM own signed fighters for the time of contract not DAZN that means that new promoter chosen by DAZN will bring his own crop of fighters.

I'm sure you understand Matchroom have not been paid "$1 billion". DAZN's holding company is not worth that amount so would have no chance of raising such funds. Any payments to Matchroom will be entirely performance based.

I understand my post was lengthy, but your response is exactly what I was referring to. You are showing no consideration at all for any of the factors I detailed. You seem to be happy to cheer lead and take great pride in something that has very little chance of ever bearing fruit.

Whether it takes of or not is irrelevant to me.....DAZN is unavailable in my country.

But Americans should be getting right behind this.

$9.99 per PPV instead of $80?

    No brainer.

You can knock the man for lying and putting on awful cards. He claims to be an amazing promoter but his boxing product is truly awful and he only makes money from Sky because he packages boxing with Darts, Snooker, etc. He's awful and your defense of him is at best misguided.

That's a stupid question. The hypothetical actions of old fish eyes do not make Hearn any less of a liar and don't make his cards any better.

That's a bizarre statement. To my eyes thread says Hearn flopped and buying the WBSS rights is a much better and more exciting deal for DAZN. You thinking that Hearn has in some way got a victory by failing to gain any interest in his US venture is just plain odd. He won't get paid anything if he keeps failing like this in the US. You get that right?

It's not true at all. Wilder gets paid very well and his team offered to pay AJ far more for one fight than he has ever got from Eddie. Wilder is a free agent and Eddie said time and again he desperately wants to promote him. Simple truth is he can't afford him and desperately wants to keep him away from AJ at all costs.

Eddie gets no US names and is out bid on all the biggest UK signings recently, but you still argue he's the man. Lol.

Wow. Hearn doesn't get paid if DAZN flops. Do you understand anything at all about business?

Excellent post. When you see it all laid out its utter madness how much faith people have in Hearn's claims.

They haven't been paid anything and they're risking their entire business. Hearn has made AJ walk away from US PPV money to fight for DAZN. Let that sink in. When he flops, how many fighters do you think will want to sign with him?

You just made a great argument for ESPN+. Also, do you really believe there will be any chance of a Pacquiao-Mayweather level fight happening on a $10 per month service? That's the equivalent of it going out on regular HBO or Showtime. At least try and be reasonable. AJ is on DAZN now because he isn't a PPV fighter in the US. As soon as he is, he won't be fighting on no monthly subscription service.

You don't seem to realize how strongly you are crystallizing my point. How could a $10 service ever financially compete with incumbent players who already have a large subscriber base paying that amount in addition to their regular £80 PPV events?

Nothing about DAZN suggests they will be able or even motivated to illiminate the PPV model. It would be sensible to assume they plan to build fighters like Joshua into PPV stars so they can charge additional fees for their own PPV events. That is the only possible way they will be able to generate the funds required to pay Matchroom anywhere close to $1bn over an eight year period.
