Ike Williams vs Roberto Duran who would have won?

Duran was rated 3rd in a list of the best fighter in the last 50 years while Ike was rated 10th in the same list in 1996 by the Ring magazine, do you agree with this and who was a better lightweight fighter?

 

Some Journeyman type fighter (71-21-10), boxer style Willie Joyce, went 2/3 against Ike Williams in 1945.

Gotta go with Duran.

 

I picture this as kind of like Duran-Barkley except at 135, with a higher workrate from Roberto who pulls away in 11-15 to coast to a decision in a physical contest.

 

Joyce was the fourth best lightweight of his era, an insanely strong one. He beat Armstrong twice as well among others.

 

Williams was far quicker than Barkley though.

 

And Duran was far quicker at lightweight than at middle, so ...

 

Hardly a journeyman!!!

 

Makes it a completely different fight unless you think it would be like the Barkley fight speeded up, both fighters punches will coming quicker and both men punched hard, the second Leonard v Hearns fight was a slower version of their first and Ray got punched all over the place.

 

Toss up for me.

 

The guy was superb.

 

3 fights with Lew Jenkins= 2 wins and a draw,4 fights with Henry Armstrong=2 wins apiece,2 fights with Chalky Wright= 1 win each.
104 fights 72 wins 15 losses 9 draws,8 no contests.Real fighter!

 

Ike was actually voted 10th.

 

Duran is the better fighter overall, takes a UD in a fight that has a lot of punishment handed out on both sides. Could be the kind of fight that takes a lot out of a fighter.

 

Thanks for update on Joyce from the "Down Under"....back in those days 15 losses was not that unusual.
That's why I depend on info from Mr. Thomas.
